I remember during the early 2000s foot and mouth debacle I was living right in the thick of it (go figure) and went to New Zealand. They looked at my bike leathers, boots etc and asked do I live near any affected farms to which I said yes. They grumbled a bit, said I shouldn't have brought my leathers due to the risk of transmission then made me walk through a cat litter tray full of sheep dip - wtf!
