Do high flow cats make a difference to the volume? I'm trying to subtly increase the volume of my standard exhaust (beyond removing the middle silencers, but keeping the resonator and back boxes) and wonder if that is another option.

I've just removed the middle collector and cherry bombs on the Ute (replaced with a kissing pipe), and popped the standard rear boxes back on. It's actually quieter than with the middle intact but no rear boxes, but there's absolutely no droning in the cabin at motorway speeds (as there was before).

Remove mid silencers first definitely sounds better , my local place charged I think 120 to replace both with straight pipe

Got this vid from VXR2010 of his maloo,
"It is with the original exhaust, centre silencers replaced with straight through and sport back boxes made up which is where the cut outs are"

Clicky Clicky

Chris, I converted the file then got it hosted, works a treat.

I've just fitted decat pipes to snoweys car & was surprised at the difference in volume
Surprising as a few that have done it lately have been disappointed only difference being Snowey has proper decat pipes where others have just removed the guts from the cats

Neil you have me thinking now. I might get Infinity exhausts to make two decat pipes on wed when they put the new high flow cats in so saves time bringing it back Incase i want to swap out at a later date. If i dont want, then i can try and sell them. At least they are measured for a std exhaust.

They do sound good although I think they may be a bit Loud for Snowey hehe

Any mod that gives more or a bit more noise are well worth it , you often only appreciate it when it's done and are thinking that sounds good , I did simple relatively cheap mods as above and the noise is so much better , no motorway drone and noise when I want it , cut outs are a good way to do things , all told cost me 356 £ fitted , just deleting mid silencers plus sportier back boxes are well worth it and not that much , most exhaust places can put together a decent back box for around 100 to 150 a side depending on needs

Ok. I took 2 diff camera shots of centre box removed and altered back boxes. But the quality was not to my standard.

So i may have some footage of the r8 doing rollers with nothing but that.

Since today, I now have no cats and same system. And by god to me it drones under pressure esp at low speeds. Doing 70mph is fine. But do lower speeds and i get it around 1500rpm.

So i get the car rollered again tomorrow with decat see what it does. But already I know it pulls miles better. I will get the definetive answer tomorrow. (But i know i cant keep the power with the new cats )

Now i will fit 200 cell cats as the drone is too much for me. And will roller again.

Then a remap from that and see what the difference is from that.

The cutouts were delayed till tues next week as there is nowhere to put them.

I noticed on Dans that he settled with less down clearance to fit the cut outs.

This i can't do... so... i have got infinity exhausts to incorporate them into the rear silencers like Wortec do. So we will see and hear the fin8shed product Tues next week smile

Been playing with mine a little more today......

Standard rear silencers (VXR8), which are totally drone free between 1500-2000 revs, and about 79dB at 4500rpm, but with the cutouts open, there will only be cats between engine and atmosphere. hehe
