I never realised how much attention these things get. I love the looks from passers by, you can probably say goodbye to that with the xfr. I honestly think it looks bland, and before I get assassinated for saying that, my dad's got one.

We have an XF 5.0 n/a in the household (wifey' s car) and I must admit, it's a lovely thing. It's been supremely reliable, is well built, handles superbly and goes very well indeed. With another 120hp or so, the XFR must be damn quick.

Downsides?
20" wheels + woman driver + kerbs = banghead
I'm just as bad - kerbed our 3.0 XFs this afternoon. The only thing annoying about our XF is the b****y brake dust.

My Monaro is on its 4th engine after blowing up the first 3 and spend the best part of 4 years off the road! I was worried to drive the thing when I last got it back and certainly didn't want to rev it in case it broke. Slowly my confidence came back as it learned to trust it and now I think nothing of taking it past 6.5k rpm. My advice is keep it and enjoy it, it's not fragile but you need to learn mechanical sympathy.

Alternatively, get a Jap superbike and ride it flat out everywhere, no need to warm it up even and you will definitely break before it does!
Does that mean we will see you at thunder road now?

Wish I could say yes but I'm not sure to be honest. Another blown engine would spell the end of my car as I've already spent more than I can afford and there are no guarantees if you sit on the rev limiter for a mile.

Could I bring my bike or is that not allowed?

I think we've all been there at some stage mate...normally after we get a bit pee'd off with the damn thing over a sizeable failure. Once the hot headedness has worn off you soon realise its not all that bad and the panic was for nothing.

Do a few more miles and see if things return to normal (sans all the breakages!).

Overall, I am in two minds. I saw a couple of more Jags today (you can tell I am leaning towards this car over the RRS) and they are great looking thing. There is not much that makes them stand out. They look like a diesel version bar the rear pipe to someone unfamiliar with the model.
This! is the main reason I like mine. Toyed with an RS6 but from more than 20ft it could be a TDI! Same for the M cars and the Jags. They don't do base spec VXR8s, it's either the full fat V8 or nothing and I like that allot. The exclusivity was very apparent at the show I was at over the weekend as loads of people wanted to chat about it and as far as I could tell it got no negative feedback. biggrin
They are far from the build spec of some German kit but it has way more sole and enjoyment. Also now I've dropped some wedge on the engine it can back up its looks, stock was not hugely impressive I have to say although far from slow, just those pesky Golfs and such are getting so dam fast now!!!

You're right about the performance Roger, the standard car definitely needs more go, to match the noise and visuals.

Yep, my old RS6 drove past me pre SC, I now do that to him and people thought the RS was fast! Once the headers and cam are done it should be able to match the V10 RS6 I recon, not off the line though as I have poor respect for my rear tyres! wink

Yours should outperform the R8 mate.
Mine matched exactly R8 V8 spec years ago. 0-100 in 9 and 0-60 in 4.2 that was on street tyres and rwd not AWD too..

Thats the sad thing. You have to pay well into 6 figures to outperform a chevy v8 with some minor mods. So whats the point!?
Nothing is close with the practicality of 4 doors and a 500L boot.

Don't try going to fast in the corners then as I chased one in my old 550i BMW and whilst he drove past me in a straight line it was a real barge in the corners!

I'm looking forward to finding out and plan on keeping something more agile to run alongside it.

To cut down on running costs and give me max performance/practicality I've thought about selling the Monaro and Land Rover to get a C6 RS6 Avant + remap to about 750HP. However, instinct tells me this plan is deeply flawed on a number of levels!

Sounds like a good idea to me, but if I were you I'd want to get some motoring out of yours for what you've spent on it. I'm not pouring cold water on the Aussie brutes either, I love them to bits, but the Audi suits my current needs better.
