Also buying a C63 is like buying a Boxster, it's because you can't afford an E63 with even more power
No. Boxsters and 911s are both small sports cars and handle similarly, the E63 is larger and much more ponderous than the C63. But I know what you're getting at. smile

That may be but so what? The current E63 is also hugely tuneable... .Standard trim the E63's quicker than the VXR8, is better to drive and sit in and rewards more. Tuned..and the result will be the same. Having said that they're both quite similar in their intentions. VXR8's main point is it's considerably cheaper. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/vauxhall/vxr8/87002/v...

would you drive it to the South of France though?!
I used to drive the Monaro all over the place. Long trips weren't an issue. I think all the other owners of high powered Monaros and VXR8s would agree. The Audi would be a laugh, but 1mpg (foot down) is a bit limiting.

Don't get me wrong, I've owned many cars and would love to add a C63 (2-door) to the list. I don't agree with the idea that they are superior cause it's they're a Merc. MB has had a shyte reputation since the early 90s. My S600 did nothing but break down and cost money. Most Mercs from the early noughties are rotting quicker than a seventies Lancia.
I wasn't questioning long trips in a Monaro, I did the same, but I doubt Worums would risk a trip to the South of France in his

You should think bigger. Maybe Clarkson, Hammond and May should take three heavily tuned forum cars on a road trip. One car supercharged, one turbocharged and one NA. The booby car (for the inevitable FI implosion) could be a C63 with a gold wrap.

Actually the new E63 probably out handles the C63 if you read the write ups and comparisons. Immensely capable car but far to much money for a big road car.

The VXR8 is also far rarer and universally liked by people as my recent show demonstrated. Yes the high dollar merc and bmw'a are dynamically better cars but I have to say its generally high income, high dept or daddy's boy type people who drive them. That's not the sort of people I want to associate with in my own time, the guys on here are far more down to earth and true petrol heads.
With what I brought mine for and have spent on it I could easily have brought a C63 (had money set aside for the tuning) but I made a conscious decision not to.

I think he would. I might be mistaken, but I get the impression it's pretty sorted now.

Wormus's only concern is sustained top speed stuff I suspect due to previous grenades which are very expensive at his level. True road driving I would suggest is not an issue.

yeah, the problem is your missus has a better car and it makes you feel unhappy inside? Often a common trait in relationships where the woman has the power, look at Mike Paublamo or whatever he was called

The main thing is it's not quite as fast! Phew!
It's the quality that makes me want German again, but this thread reminds me of the person I was becoming when I had the audi, that puts me off!

Actually I use mine on average 3 days a week to go to and from work (about 200 miles a week) and have done since I got it back well over a year ago. It's proved really reliable and can often be seen terrorising the dual carriageways of Milton Keynes. I would have no problem taking it on a longer trip, it's a properly sorted rocket ship of a car. Even the LS9 clutch works better than stock!

Current engine cost me £20k and I cannot afford to blow it up that's all.

Here's a reminder. I still feel sick when I see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryT-Kad2Qzs

Everyone can afford to blow them up, but very few also have pain of the repair bill.

It's easy on a forum to say "Do it" but I admire your resolve nto resist. cool

Difficult decision but I like the car so much I couldn't just scrap it. Also, this one was engine rebuild number 3, previous 2 engines both build by Frank Spencer blew up/written off requiring new blocks in both cases. 2nd explosion also took out the supercharger.

I guess you don't know Roger? If you did you wouldn't say this to his face as he would pull your head off. Oh mighty keyboard warrior!
