I am relatively new to the VXR8. I have a 2008 6.2 LS3 which has been problem free for 6 months. After a short run out yesterday when I restarted car got Check Engine , plus rough idle sounds like missing a cylinder or two and after another minute ESP off /Stability control off message comes on too. Seen various posts on poor battery being a cause and looked through FAQs. Have had battery on overnight on a CTEK so now shows fully charged but still get same symptoms. Its due to go to Motorbodies Luton to get a new spare key so they can check it I guess but they didnt sound very clued up about the R8 so a bit concerned about getting into the "replace random components at customer cost" scenario.

For someone that has been silent on Pistonheads for nearly 12 1/2 years, I think a fuller reply is really needed. Great lurking skills. cool

It isn't the end of the world. I have had this happen a couple of times. Once was when I had a couple of cylinders that weren't working after over-spinning the engine so all sorts of alarms were going off, and the other time was when the car had been hit, and was crabbing down the road.

Basically, whilst the car electronics seem sophisticated, they're not. If there's a problem, then one of the first thing the car disables is the ESP, for some reason. It could be anything from a wheel sensor wire, to a plug lead not being attached properly. You need to get any faults read first, then speak with companies like Monkfish or Walkinshaw, who have seen all of these problems before.

Good luck. smile

Try a load meter on the battery, it still might be fubared.

If the battery has never been changed before, I would just change it, its 6 years old they don't last much longer than that.

Motorbodies have said its one of the Coilpacks. Bit like my sadly gone E34 M5 - 1 coilpack per cylinder except 2 more. They better be right as labour and parts even with masterfit discount is pricey.

A coil pack's not a bad shout, IMHO.

ECU throws a code which usually ID the cylinder which is an issue. I imagine coil looks similar to lead or plug as far as misfires go.

Always good to do your own Diag where possible as most often the fix isnt too hard.
