Ok, thanks for the feedback people. I'll keep an eye on it for now and see how it progresses. If I do find what's causing it I'll post back on here. Hopefully it's nothing too serious. smile

yes old post i know , Katie i’m assuming , check the gearstick rubber gator , as previous post they often split , i have some wet suit material on my monaro , it got quieter , it’s still making same noises from when i bought the car and got no worse , i also bought a 10 plate maloo , usual gearbox noise found out it had no proper gator / sound proofing as it was used as a pace car so interior stripped , i put back what had been taken out , amazing how much quieter it was , a rip shifter can effect the noise as again gator can tear , plus gearboxes are very agricultural any way but are generally very strong

This was what I found on my VXR...

Once I'd changed this, noise gone.

I've since brought the original posters car , He did explain what he had done to investigate the noise . But i never did look into if the rubber behind the gator has ripped.

Ive changed the fluid in the gearbox and the diff but its stayed the same and ive done another 5k miles (now at 70k) )its got no worse or better .

Tax return and a calibra rebuild mean monaro is just going to be as it is for the next few months but at the moment i'm thinking its just the way they are.
