Rich, could you swap the metal section with a plastic/composite section to reduce heat soak?
Yeah but it was only 1*C over the OTR plastics.. and way less from 0mph, so not much point. 1*C is roughly 0.3% power so not worried about that.
More worried about the 2kpa Im down. My intake is a 102mm airbox already.

So might have to speak to Mr Fast 102 and his mate Nick to go with the new cam wink

There will be many tears at TR next year!

Where can I get a cone on a stick to fit a monaro? I'm game...the cone seems easy/cheap, anywhere good for a 90' bent bit of pipe?

There's a cone in a box on ebay, but it looks expensive to me.

Yeah, not sure where is best for the elbow. Dead PC, will be less lazy about searching when off the crappy phone...

Sorry to hijack but mickeyb1987: did your VXR already have the Svede Speed on it when you bought it? Trying to find-out what happen to my old VXR after I sold it & I'm wondering if it's now with you:

Hi mate. I bought the SvedeSpeed then fitted it to my car, so doubts it's your car! Plus, mine was previously owned by forum member El Diablo.

Whats that communist maf doing in yours mikey!?

Id wager there is power there with that gone in yours. Also did you log manifold pressure? Kpa?

If so what was it at redline? Each kpa under 100 is roughly 1% less power. Look to your intake and maf for the missing kpa's
Haha! I know Richard, may go mafless when I start looking at the tune myself.....
Good call on the manifold pressure- it looks like it's dropping to 97/98kPa at the rev limit. Looks like it could be the maf.

This is what had been done to mine when I bought it, no idea how effective it is but seen similar on older Holdens....

Great idea that I'll tap into (except for small cone). But. Needs an insulating plate to stop hot air being dragged in from the engine bay.
Strap looks a bit S&M?

Yeah cone is small and not shielded.

This is how you do it..

OTR is probably ideal if you can get the filter area to support your mods.

Actually thats pretty good. Finding whats eating a couple of kPa might take a while. At least you can take the maf out and recheck and see if it made a difference. Could also be filter, or intake manifold as well..

K&N do 1 of these with the heat shield but you have to order the one for the pontiac Gto but same part & fits perfect but requires slight trimming of the engine cover beside the power steering pot for a flush fit.its on youtube if u want to see what it looks like.Nice torque gains & gr8 induction sound & power gain.

Here`s mine, got from OPG Australia, couple of sections of stainless tube and the cone filter goes in the wing. Plenty of space down there so a huge cone is an option. I also had a cracked light down there, so opted to remove this, giving a cold air feed direct to the cone. Not ideal for wading into a stream but It`s been like this for 8K now.
Not got any flow figures from this or power for the car, but she puts down a 107mph 1/4mile terminal, stock LS2 VXR8, aside from this and a map.

Good call, fair value on those. Not sure whether to go for the 5.7 or the 6.0 version, I assume the only difference is the throttle body size they mate to.

Oh, and MAF/IAT...

Mine is fitted to the vxr Ro, the part number began 63 if this helps as I remeber when looking it up that the information on their site was slighty contradictory for the 5.7 & the 6.0 models.

As far as I can tell:

57-3044 - plastic pipe version for 5.7
69-7200TP - metal pipe version for 5.7
57-3053 - plastic pipe version for 6.0
69-7201TP - metal pipe version for 6.0

6.0 may really mean VZ, but that doesn't matter for me. Reading around them a little, but tempted to trial a plastic pipe one for 5.7 (assumedly better heat resistance/dissipation on the plastic one).

Oh, the 63 prefix is for a version that doesn't meet Californian emissions standards for some reason.

Here's the relevant page.
