I had also spoken to MF about my LS1 and possibly looking at the cam route, but the LS1 heads are very restrictive and ideally, CAI, heads, inlet, headers all the way back need upgrading to benefit from a CAM on an LS1 - an LS2 is a much better starting point for a CAM upgrade.
Rubbish ls2 intake vs. rubbish MAF (arguably both), intake on both, headers/cats/cat-back on both. ls2 heads only flow ~10% more than ls1, although that may be enough to justify them (I'm running them...milled a tad).

Agreed. Neither are ideal. Ls2 heads are only slightly better.

Ls6 intake is better than ls2. And ls2 heads are better than ls1.
Both really need intake and heads for best results.

Have been looking into headers, fast intake and cai would be affordable too, just struggling with myself not to sell it at the moment as my patience is rubbish!

No, no..

Its all about airflow. Look to the bottlenecks.

BUT start at your power requirements and work backwards.

Best value for 500fwhp is probably l76/ls3 intake with l92 type heads and suitable cam.
Add supporing intake/exhaust and you should have 400rwhp easy even with emissions compliance.

Budget say £1500 in parts. Maybe less if you shop about.

Always start at power requirements and work backwards.

Ultimately FI will give you more power. Question is can you use it?
At all road legal speeds the answer is no, FI adds no value. Even at TR over a mile FI is only 3MPH faster at the 1 mile point comparing apples to apples (vxr8 to vxr8).
If you ask the FI guys what they paid for that 3mph you would be shocked.

These cars are traction limited with the OEM tyres and config.

Balls !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are forgetting the limiters and gearing ... so fi v na if they reach a limit in gearing or a limiter (vxr8) then they will you get ? Mine will reach 176 in under 3/4 mile but at a mile it will still be 176!!

yes you can use it WTF?
and at road legal speeds. STOP spreading this crap!
rolleyes

traction can be an issue IN THE BLOODY STANDARD CAR !!! if issue are not sorted.

IF you add anything in one area you need to think about other areas.. Would you had 200bhp and keep the standard brakes? Then claim adding 200bhp is not worth it or can not be used because of the brakes on the road ? NO !!!!!
and re, OEM tyres, just change them ? confused
And as for ... Ask the Fi guys about the 3mph fkING HORSE st ...

just my 2p worth wink

I've never had a supercharged car, had 5 twin turbos but would like to try something different, I can see that opinions vary on here so it is quite easy to get confused on what to go for, the n/a option is more achievable in my patience bracket and can do quite a bit myself, supercharging is a longer way away and would be all new to me so couldn't attempt myself.

The picture in my original post was just there to see if f1 was more in a "postie" budget, but appears that it's not unless I'm happy to not have much gain but have a supercharged ute, cool but probably not a great idea.

Yes I could sell the ute and get an m5, e55 or another rs6 at the drop of a hat, but trying to fight my urge still, but the main problem with that is I just love my truck!

Hi GNG

I think you said that the car would be your daily drive. Well another thing to consider. A couple of years ago my local Jaguar dealer leant me an XJR for day. For the first 20minutes of the day the sound of the supercharger spooling up was the best sound I'd ever heard. After an hour it was just an infernal whistle and by the end of the day I was glad to give the thing back. Ended up buying a 4.2 NA Sovereign as my daily drive instead.

Don't get me wrong, FI is defiantly the way forward if you want big figures (700+ fwbhp) but as a daily drive you will get a more bang for your buck going down the NA route with ported heads and a decent cam.

The original supercharger question was regarding a centri type of 'charger so different to the PD blowers that are more common now, 007.
