Sale or Return issue with a motor trader,
Discussion
Not my issue but Nostradamus's
Would appreciate it if a few members could read his thread and steer clear of the trader.
Nost is one of lifes loveable characters, not a bad bone in his body and such a placid character and to be turned over by a dealer he trusted is totally unfair.

Similar thing happened to me with my Triumph Motorbike with a main Triumph dealer.....I only found out they had sold my bike when the new owner....(In Northern Ireland)...contacted me to see if I had the service book?
After three weeks agro they finally paid me................and went bust shortly after.
Sale or return?.....Never again....

He's fooked, doing it by the legal route. Get a couple of heavies, and visit him at home, and he will find enough money - though probably not the whole £19k. Doing it the legal way, and he will just join the queue. I see it all too often at work, and the people that do it carry on with their lifestyle. It's not a crime to do this to people and companies, so it gets done time and time again. Would appreciate it if a few members could read his thread and steer clear of the trader.

I'm happy with SOR, but am always very careful about where I place vehicles, for just this reason.

Christ Ian, is this a big loophole they know they can get away with it, surely somewhere it has to stop.
If I told you that my company (only small) has lost £60k in one hit, and the best part of £200k over the years, then you can guess how big a problem it is. I know a local company managed to fold other companies further up their chain, going for over £400k in total. The owner started up a new company, with other people as directors, and has started to do the same thing again (last time I heard, they had a £300k deficit and was still trading). As for stopping, don't make me laugh. It's exactly the same way that any government for the last 20 odd years (in my view) has run this country.
(You're getting me started now) As an example, look at Student loans. Given by banks, underwritten by the government, and means that other borrowing can be done against them (for other reasons), and the government of the day are therefore not paying for further education, so gives the government a 5-15 year breathing space. At some point, someone will say "hang on a moment" and it will all catch up with us.
Look at the Scottish question. Is Alec Salmond worried about how long North Sea Oil will underpin the economy? 25 years? 50 years? Is he fek. His only worry is that it outlasts him getting his full pension, after that, he doesn't give a monkey's.
Sending this dealer e-mails will be a waste of time, he'll just hit the delete button !
Go sit out side the dealer ship every day you can and inform any potential customers of the problem you're having with them is one way, just make sure you are off their property and only inform punters of your own issues !!
The other is to spread the word by Face Book which will reach loads very quick, a post in General Gassing is worth a shot as well.
Good luck Nost, I certainly wouldn't be very calm in this situation !!

In hindsight you have to wonder why he didn't drop his asking price to £19k when selling it privately maybe even £17-18k and seen if it sold or not. Much higher chance of a sale probably and none of this ball ache. I do think some people selling cars privately get far too greedy and lose a sense of perspective/reality. Still this scenario is a sh&t£ thing to do to people. It's almost like a Ponzi scheme where they end up using one customers money to pay another until the liquidity evaporates.
I'd go to the stealer ship and sit there till they coughed up the money. Take a few friends even if not the agro type, they can act as witnesses when the stealer gets upset and starts trying to force you.
Nice cars there, padlock yourself to a lambo and wait there. There are ways to really press it home as you have been robbed basically!
I'm talking with hindsight to hand as well as LS V8 power waisted far to much of my time in the past and now I'd just go up there and wait for whats owed.

Sorry to hear this. Being a reputable dealer you have to be careful as SOR is an unwritten rule ie each dealer / seller scenario is different.
I got caught once selling a car where the seller said we agreed to give him more than agreed once we had sold it. So I lost out. Never again
Ever since I only ever do SOR on cars or from people I know and trust
The fact they contacted him from advert should have rung alarm bells - thats cold calling.
I don't know the seller but will do some homework.
My only worry for him is being a Ltd co. he will find no assets or cash if he winds company up.
camping out on Saturday morning advising other viewers might seem petty but may work and get their attention.
How can a dealer sell a car and claim to have no money and want to pay in instalments. dealer is a tosser
Can Brutus find out in the buyer PXd in anything as he could have a claim on that.
its a difficult one and feel sorry for his grief

Says who? Only joking, and I'm sure there's no one in here that would tar you with that brush.
I only popped back in here to say, that the general public don't realise, but thissort of caper pulls every bona fide dealer down, and if enough are at it, it can affect the market prices.
If a disreputable company wants £500 profit, then he can sell for £500, pocket all of the money, and sticks two fingers up at the landlord, the utility companies, the advertising mediums he has used, and everyone else. The dealer that is in it for the long term may have £350 in expenses to pay, and keep his business going really needs to advertise at £850 to earn that same £500, but what does he do?
If you then look at VAT and PAYE as well, you've really got to be dedicated to the ethics of commerce to play by the rules.

Don't go to the work address. These people don't give a monkey's about their work, and look on it as a cash generator. Their actions will make it fail anyway, and they are ready to start again elsewhere. However, their family friends and home life are a different matter. Knock on their front door, out of the blue.
