I think a 1/2 miles thunder road event could be very good...

Reasons..

After 4/5 1 mile events most know what can be done!

Also the V8s always win....
But if its was only over 1/2 a mile all the small VXRs would be in the mix smile

Plus, This would be more about Accelerstion than just top speed which would be good for the
NA/FI/TT fight?

The mile could still be done on the day, but make it a two event comp.. i.e. 1/2 mile in the am 5 runs,
then 1 mile in the pm 5 runs ??

What do others think ?

I think it would be funny watching the Astras beating the v8's!

1/2 mile is an unusual distance for an event. It's usually 1/4 and the mile. We've asked for it before, but I think part of the problem is the equipment. The mile needs a speed trap, but the 1/4 needs distance timing and a tree as well.

iirc, its was running both of the timing equipment at the same time that was the issue ?

1/2 mile is a fairly common stat in the US.

Really...

as some of the other clubs do for the likes of the 30-130 etc

If you're wanting other stats, the best...not cheapest option is to group together and buy a couple of VBoxes or something.

Then just collate all the data you want from them. That would also give all the stats you wanted, speed, time, distance
Only slight issue is even with 2 units, cars running side by side it would slow things up a little.
Realistically to ensure fairly quick turnaround 4 units would be needed and someone to collate the data either through the day, or just be happy at the end of the day or intervals during the day

Even saying that, something like a VBox for personal use is quite handy too.

Plus, lets face it...the Vbox would probably be more reliable too ! lol

Why not a track day with timed laps instead of all straight line events , see how many laps these kettles last

The VBox idea does mean you could do you mile, then just take the 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 distances in between from the same run anyway.

I think it'd be funny to stick the 1/8 in there as well, we'd lose to bicycles over the 1/8th hehe

Conversely, I think 1/2 mile has been chosen to give the FI guys more margin over NA cars wink
1/4 mile and FI struggles with traction, 1 mile and they struggle with gearing.... I might just be cynical though hehe

How about a 2 mile drag? WOT for circa 50 seconds??

FI done correctly will....should win easily in all those stats. It'll still win 1/4 both trap and ET, and likewise 1 mile there should be no issue with gearing

Although if you can't achieve a good speed in a mile...tough. 2 miles is just crazy....I think fast cars would be getting airbourne long before that sort of distance ! lol

Vbox data would let you do any timing increment and speed.
60fts, 0-60, 0-100, 30-130, 1/4, 1/2, 1km, mile, literally anything and everything.

For a laugh you could also throw in at the end a 0-100-0 test for everyone.
It'd be interesting to see how big heavy cars can actually brake !( or not lol )

Or if the venue permitted some sort of handling track too. It'd record all that data as well.

FI struggles for traction...? Not in my old 635hp Ro and not in the new auto VXR8. Still beats a tuned RS6 away from the lights in the dry.... smile
