Quick filter/oil question

The car used to be a garage queen and hardly driven, having covered just under 2k in the last 2 years.

Last time the oil was changed/serviced was in sep 2012. I am going to get it done as soon as possible but the question is, and I know its not ideal, but as it was lightly used and not ragged, at 2 years is it really going to be a critical issue?

I am not really driving till I get it done, looking at the oil it looks in good condition sill

Next question, who sells filters for the LS blocks?

Vauxhall will sell you and oil filter, but I now use a Royal Purple filter.
As for the oil question, I would change it if it was my car as oil will degrade over time.
When you think about it the cost of a filter and oil change compared to causing extra wear on the engine is nothing.
If you start it up now and again the moisture in the engine cant get hot enough to burn off, which will dilute the oil.
If anybody knows better fair enough.

Regards John

cheers, its being changed definitely but am stuck between now and the weekend

if I can get a filter, I can get it changed.

Anyone know what the part number is for a pf8r filter? I see the vxr8 uses the pf8 not the pf8r

Mobil 10/60 has loads of zddp in comparo to standard stuff.
I got a stack of their ls filters too.

Nothing has blown up recently, so that's a plus smile

Fresh Mobil 1 didn't stop my last 2 engines from exploding and neither does not degrade over time. It gets dirty when used as contains detergents to to keep impurities in suspension to stop sludge forming. This does not stop it from lubricating if you stick to the service schedule so changing oil after 2k miles is a waste of money.

Oil gets acidic as part of the combustion process. New oil can sit in an engine for ever, without any problems, but even 1000 mile old oil will start to etch engine internals. For that reason, if oil has been used - I'll always change. smile

If a car is not used to much I would not do expensive oils, no point, cheap a chips oil will be fine, if your doing average miles per year then use good oil and above all a top notch filter, oil in an engine is only as good as the filter it passes through, don't buy cheap buy the best you can.
