After a year on my shelf, I finally got around to fitting
the ls9 clutch during the week.
Very pleased, absolutely stock feel, so much so that
I really struggle to tell the difference to be honest.....for me
that is perfect. If anything it's smoother, pull away
in 2nd so easy.

Fitting was relatively straight forward,
although a short call the fish was required to confirm
a small detail, thanks Roger. Fitted a remote bleed at
the same time.

Can handle in excess of 750hp without issue, totally stock feel, light, no judder etc. Decent weight flywheel so no rattly gearbox noises either.

More clamping surface therefore force.

Mind you I can guarantee OP did not fit an OEM LS9 as it has a totally different crank pattern.

I assume he had custom flywheel or an adapter etc..

Correct. Suitable flywheel supplied with the clutch.

having driven one over the W/E must admit LS9 feels better than an LS7 which I thought was good. LS9 feels easier, lighter and more direct

I've read somewhere that the ls7 flywheel is heavy - is it?

That is what I have read too. I spent ages trying to find out definitive weights for various parts, LS2 assemblies vs LS7 etc.

LS7 clutch with an aluminium flywheel ends up similar rotating mass to an LS2 clutch as I recall, but I've long since lost the numbers behind all this, so it could all be hot air!

For the uninitiated, does the LS9 clutch have a dual mass flywheel out of interest?

Reason I ask is that I've had the OEM clutch removed from my E3 GTS and it was noted that the OEM clutch on the E3 has a dual mass fly wheel, which came as a bit of a surprise. It's since been replaced with the LS7 which has a much lighter pedal, but I don't think it engages/bites as nicely. Wondering if the LS9 is any better?

Stock Flywheel for a 2006 GTO (24 lbs). Stock plate and disc for GTO (26 lbs). Total = 50

LS7 aluminium flywheel RAM 2552 (17 lbs). LS7 plate and disc (33 lbs). Total = 50

LS7 steel flywheel (27 lbs). LS7 plate and disc (33 lbs) Total 60

I installed a RAM flywheel + LS7 Clutch/Cover on my LS1 and using bathroom scales got ~21KG (47 lbs) so not far off the above copied from a random thread. My Aim was to get the LS7 clutch down to the original LS1 clutch weight.

Interesting reading. No issues with my LS7 yet (over 18 months now) - but will look at this for the next one.

Worth noting an LS9 clutch cannot be used in a Monaro without fabrication. I have one in mine and as others have said, it has a totally stock feel with none of the clutch pedal issues. It just works brilliantly. From memory mine needed a VXR8 bell housing, a spacer and changes to the spigot bearing/input shaft. Mine has a slight chatter at idle but it's been apart to check and everything is fine.

LS7 could not handle the power in mine ?
now have ACT clutch no issues.
