Not an issue on my GTS as I've already been stopped for having a mis spaced plate front and back and also a smaller plate on the front of the Monaro when I had it. Once bitten, twice shy and all that.

FYI - V80 CYL shown as V8 0 CYL and was fully readable by ANPR at the time.

However, I wonder if the new rules regarding not having to display a tax disc and the BIB reliance on ANPR systems, whether there will be a bigger crack down on non conforming number plates whether readable or not ?

A nice little extra cash earner with a better backing of an excuse for getting pulled, also a prime oppertunity to have a look for other defects, exhaust noise, tinted front side windows etc?

hadn't thought of that, mind you the DVLA don't even know the new rules as they all say different. I would imagine the plod hasn't got a clue with new rules either

No Probs Mikey.

Just next time you are out, look to see how many number plates there are on the roads that are badly spaced, illegal fonts etc.

It seems the norm these days !!

At £100 a pop now, it must be quite tempting for the BIB to get more strict ?

Funny you should say that, as on the way back from the Newcastle meet, I was pulled because the police ANPR couldn't read the number on the back of my car, when the officer called it in, she had miss read it as, P8 HSV, which turns out to be the same car, but with no insurance.
The officer who I have to say was very polite, and had a nice tone, re-read the number plate once we were stopped, and checked with base and found everything in order.I was let on my way, with no issues really raised about my plates. Happy Days

£100 a pop against the millions DVLA are making out of selling number plates which ONLY have any value if they ARE mis-spaced? The market will soon dry up. Anyway ANPR is able to ignore spaces.

Anyway aren't the cops supposed to be out catching crooks, rapists and fraudsters? (Ahh, no! There wouldn't be anyone to run the country?)

Had a few mis placed in the past like

H5V XX
T 40NDA
S14 KCR with a dot in the C
JJ Z350 7

Only even got pulled once when my TR7 front light refused to appear above the bonnet and they breathalised me!

Not sure I would do it now though.

Thought only VOSA carried the equipment to measure Db levels or do the BIB now have the equipment ?

Got collared few years back for displaying T60 LOX as T 60LOX with a craftily doctored letter B to make it look like bks lol got away with it once then 2 years later had it revoked by the DVLA as I got stopped as I came off a ferry in newcastle and the BIB had set up an anpr camera to catch uninsured motorists.

As Gareth mentions the DVLA sell these plates knowing they will be doctored to suit the owners requirements. Just remember we never own the Reg Number we simply pay to have the right to display it. Luckily I only paid £99 for the plate above but some can costs thousands.

Exactly, the DVLA can revoke your plate and then are free to sell it again !

They've been clamping down on plates for years, it's nothing new.

It's absolutely riddled with ANPR cameras over here, both cops, tax and vehicle surveillance and tracking for the police. You could barely travel 15-20 miles anywhere without passing a camera.

As for noise, officially still no legislation about it, except they dont need any new legislation with db levels.

A cop can make the accusation via his calibrated ears and state excessive noise, to which you would then have to prove you are innocent of any offence.
Of course he could also play the anti-social driving or noise card too, again almost impossible for you to defend against.

Sorry, I just don't believe all our cops are like that. There are bound to be a few insecure and psychologically challenged types who need to push people around, but I think most are OK and really have better things to do. If you want to know about stty cops, make a trip to Australia or New Zealand. Now they really are utter wkers who spend MOST of their time nicking motorists (and love it).

I hope they do clamp down, though it will make spotting mouth breathers more difficult.

no they aren't, once revoked its never reissued. Am surprised Capita haven't launched an outsourcing solution to make motorists lives worse by taking over the DVLA, only Capita have the capability to take on such an outsourcing contract whilst at the same time lowering the end user experience wink

My pet hate is miss spaced registration plates, I think the owners should have all their money confiscated and given to me, and then hung by the big toe till it falls off. laugh

The DVLA enforcement is mainly via a computer , for example comes up as not taxed ticket sent out , traffic will probably give you a hard time normal plod probably not , if a car is imported and not from the uk and the space for the plate is different to uk size for example smaller then you can put a smaller than uk plate in the space , it should show a post code of where it was made but that seems to be ignored , if there are less numbers or letters in the plate it can be adjusted spacing wise , VOSA have a site with it on and it goes into plenty of detail
