Hi everyone,

Whilst being aware of the rules, just a quick word of warning that SCAMMERS are always out there targeting private car sellers in various tricky ways...

I have just received an email like this:

It looks like a PH site, only the address bar is different. And once you have entered your login and password details (I used fake details: C*NT) it tells you there is something wrong and asks you for your house and credit card details...

So beware fellas...

PS. Moreover it has been sent from adverts@pistonheads.com

Nothing new, been happening all year. I get them a few times a month. The bad wording and spelling always gives it away plus dodgy email address. Also it's never piston-heads.

Glad you didn't get caught

Bad wording and spelling? Could be someone off here then. :-)

You're still popping in from time to time then?

Your old car gave a nice healthy result at SRR, last weekend. smile

Yeah, I pretty well read most areas of Pistonheads. Still got a soft spot for the Aussie V8s.

There's no other part of PH quite like this bit though.

Geek angle;

Sending an email from someone else's address is incredibly easy, most email clients / services allow you to set your email to anything you like. More modern email services such as Google Mail have cottened onto this and prevent sending from unverified email addresses.

To combat this type of abuse, numerous things such as SPF Records were introduced, and I can see that pistonheads.com has such a record. With this in place, the email you received should have been tagged as spam / phishing attack.

If not, might be worth switching to Google Mail instead wink

I thought it was all suspicious. The login pages looks very genuine. The real giveway was when he said he actually wanted to buy my car :P And I think I actually do not want to do it, especially that I have just found a great renewal price with Chris Knott smile
