I made the mistake of having a drive in one of these beasts a week or so ago and now feel the urge to make the jump...

The interior makes a mockery of the R8, although I guess we are talking about a £50k odd car when new so a bit of a difference, the performace was definitely up from an R8, again this was with the performace pack so circa 490bhp and 450lb/ft, the semi-auto 7spd box was a joy to use, especially the downshifting and the noise in standard guise was rather pleasing, dare I say as much as an R8 with typical exhaust modifications...

Tax is obviously the same as the R8 and the servicing isn't as bad as I had feared, minor and major services being around £250 and £450 respectively. However, if something went bang I'd imagine the outlay would far exceed the repair on an R8.

Feel like I've convinced myself already, just wondering if anyone had any experience with one, any relevant information or opinions, usual facts and faults etc

Downside is that I'd have to sell the R8 and I don't particularly want to...

C63's are lovely. If they had a manual option I would have considered one (and the XFR also).

I think the C63 is a fantastic machine. Shame it's so expensive, when they go wrong- and I hope they now have specialists for cheaper serviceable parts, otherwise the prices are eye-watering.

Pretty muchs sums up my predicament at the moment. I bought the Monaro instead of a c63. Five years later and the AMG itch is still niggling away. scratchchin

There ain't many cars id swap my monaro for, but the c63 is one of them. Too pricy for me and id be concerned about the repair costs if it went wrong. So for now im happy with the old girl

Agreed, but only if you want the attention. The power of a C63 is amazing. I'd have one in estate form, if I could afford to run it as well.

Dear m,

I have been tempted to the dark side also. I have a 63 AMG engine itch that will not go away.
I had a brief drive of a CLS55 AMG in maroon. Handsome smile

regards,
Jet

They sound fantastic and look great - but for me would still be the Jaguar XFR-S.

The big cube naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 will be history soon - do it while you still can...

keep an eye out as the vx has stabilised but the c63 is still in freefall.

You are better taking some manup pills though, if you are going to swap get a z06 and if you need four seats get the other half a run around

I falling so a deal Couln't say you see a load of C63 AMGs knocking about, although more than Monaros and R8s admittedly.

Price wise I'd say something around the 25k mark, but you are right, prices seem to be falling so a deal could be on the cards, I'm in no rush to buy so would be looking to get the right price for my R8 and not get fleeced by a stealer on a part ex!
The performance pack with the 19s, lsd, carbon interior and extra 30bhp is a must also.

Great cars. A mate has one but from a distance they look almost identical to a c class diesel!

Better built, more expensive to maintain, no real special feeling apart from the exhaust tone. GTS any day for me if it was to be a newer car.

Do it. Far superior to a standard VXR8.

Hi, speaking from experience here, though didnt go for the AMG due to price and model wanted, but recently sold my LS2 VXR Monaro and bought a low mileage E500 Coupe with. 5.4 ltr V8
Pros of the Merc are build quality, ride quality and if you use the Sport button (which transforms performance) and manual gearbox setting it is rapid, petrol consumption and it is perceived as a "upmarket" vehicle.
Downside are the car is too refined for me, does almost everything beautifully but without passion and joy. I am saving up for an Eisenmann exhaust for it already.
I loved the Monaro, the noise, the impact, the visuals, that few recognised it and those that did were knowledgeable about cars. I definitely miss it but the mileage meant it had to go. I heard a VXR8 at the retail park near McDonalds in Rugby last Sunday and the noise was just glorious even on low revs. Not sure even the AMG would have the same impact.
The Merc is a much better car in almost every way but it doesn't make me smile in the way the Monaro did.
The AMG might add a bit more passion and is almost undoubtedly a "better" car, but you may may not form the emotional attachment you have with your current car. Just compare the posts to the HSV part if this forum to almost every other car make to get an idea of what I mean.

You can't compare an E500 to an AMG. It's like comparing a 550i to an M5.
