The C63 AMG was my ideal car but simply costs too much and potential repair bills would stop me enjoying it.
The chap I bought my monaro off was looking for a C63 AMG........

Actual repair bills and two months out of eleven in down time stopped me enjoying my VXR8.

Do it. Far superior to a standard VXR8.
I get in trouble for saying that
No, Slippery said 'standard' and we all know that there's no such thing. wink
Oh in that case then, a Trabant is far superior to a standard VXR8

I had a Mercedes S600 a few years back. Nice drive but shocking reliability and outrageously expensive to maintain. I remember the wipers being £70 each, the pneumatic pump for the door closure was £660 from a Merc specialist, the engine was £26,000. Bear in mind this was 1997. Put me off Mercs for a long time. In fact just long enough to witness them all going rotten and falling to bits. Or the gearboxes catastrophically failing (thinking A classes).

Yes they are nice. Yes they are fast. Think twice before spending your hard earned. If you're the type to change your car regularly, have a look at Freedom Contracts. You'll contract hire a C63 for around £5-600 with a smallish deposit and no balloon.

You can't compare an E500 to an AMG. It's like comparing a 550i to an M5.
? Having had a good 550i do say it was better than the M5 in all but outright performance, M5 in E60 guise needs better brakes etc when used hard and are a little delicate it keep in top order. Also the M5 sounds awfull at low revs! And again both look like a 520d m sport.

Ok Roger, I'm not trying to pick a fight and the 550i is a great car. The point I was trying to make (perhaps badly), is that a 500 Merc is no AMG. I know, I've got one (as have/had you from memory) and have driven most of the AMG range, from the C Class, to the SLS.

I heard a VXR8 at the retail park near McDonalds in Rugby last Sunday and the noise was just glorious even on low revs. Not sure even the AMG would have the same impact.
Black one? Probably me!

I had the option of C63 before picking up my VXR8. Yes quicker, probably a better car. Do I wish it was sat on the drive rather than the R8? No, would I still get people following me in to car parks to tell me how good my C63 sounds? Possibly, but I doubt it.

Speaking to a guy at work a few weeks ago about the R8 and he gave possibly the best description I've ever heard.

'You wouldn't accidentally buy one, some people might go in to a dealership looking for a nice Beemer or Merc and come out with an M5/C63, but you only buy an R8 because you are a car guy/gal'

Don't get me wrong the Germans build some cracking cars and if the Stars hadnt aligned when I emailed Elite and the next car due in was exactly what I wanted. I would be happily tooling around in an E60 M5.

Cheers,
Karl

No worries. All the german stuff is good but they just lack individuality and soul but some folks are not looking for that.

Can't agree more with that. Just got back from a week's holiday and the first job was to start the VXR8. Rumble Rumble.

Also, C63 AMG's, common as ste. Was in London week before last then a trip down the M3, saw 4 of them in 2 hours.

When was the last time, apart from our various meets, you saw more than 1 VXR8, let alone a GTS, or even a Gen F on the road?

Where I work round London, you see loads of them parked up with fat chauffeurs sitting in them. Never see VXR8s about.

Was looking at one while my partner was test driving an abarth the other day, they are beautiful but saw 3 (1 coupe) on Friday alone, not seen a vxr8 other than mine for a while now, even with my recent problems I wouldn't consider it, build quality and German styling ain't got nothing on raw fun!

The one thing or several things a German car can never deliver is the sense of fun you get in the Monaro's/VXR8's. Quality jokes aside these cars do have that stupid thng you cannot put a finger on called soul. My beemer has asoul but its not an event to drive.

Pretty muchs sums up my predicament at the moment. I bought the Monaro instead of a c63. Five years later and the AMG itch is still niggling away. scratchchin
Where did the 'ro go in the end Richie? I haven't seen word of it.

Main problem with the c63, ignoring the auto only, is the way it's now coveted by characters such as those in the clips below. It's barely more of an enthusiasts car than a Golf r or RS5 and has now become a status trinket, owned (leased) by people I would never associate with. Otherwise great iterations of the M3 have ended up going the same way.

Stig has bought something far more desirable in my opinion, albeit less practical.

Gumball is a disgrace and needs sortint out. No respect for the road, their attitude is nothing to be associated with car enthusiasm but their antics tar us all. Most are laundry cars, uninsured or cars on plates to match an insured one, hire cars etc. Really something has to be done and that Lord Aleem, get the fk out of here

They sound fantastic and look great - but for me would still be the Jaguar XFR-S.
I'd go for a Jag, especially when they can sound like this, if you've got speakers hooked up to your PC, turn them on ears

I have driven a C63 on the short circuit at MBW, nice, but I wasn't paying for it.

Never driven one but I like the C63 a lot. Makes more sense as a 15 to 20k car than current prices imo. By all accounts from conversations that I've had they're not as ruinous to run as others ( E55 AMG W211 this probably means you!!! ).
