Got a drive in one at a mates dealership but it didn't float my boat especially when you could have got a R35 gtr for the same money, now that was more of an occasion but my own Ro with exhaust & induction kit sounds better ( I have been told) than either.

The GTR was the only other car I fancy but then the service schedule is brutal, every 6 months it needs servicing, looking at £1k a year for that. You can pock a C 63 up for £25k where you need £35k for the GTR still.

The one thing or several things a German car can never deliver is the sense of fun you get in the Monaro's/VXR8's. Quality jokes aside these cars do have that stupid thng you cannot put a finger on called soul. My beemer has asoul but its not an event to drive.
I actually agree with you, your m5 is the last one to have any soul in it, the e60 is too precise to have it, the c63 sounds great but that's it for me, raw cars are always more fun!

I've only been in a friend's C63 on the road, and in the back of one at MB World.

It's a very different machine in terms of refinement and ability, but the auto box upsets me. For me AMG have been in a league of their own for producing desirable cars for a long time now compared to the other German stuff. Their cars have real character, but I like the unknown element of the Australians, and as a yoof, prefer the raw (comparatively) experience.

Can imagine the way that would go down, but its only another £10k love & its a really nice car honest you would love it lol

Having had my Bathurst S now for 4 years I would not change into a C63,mainly because I prefer a manual. My friend has just part exchanged his Performance pack C63 12 plate against an Aston and was quoted £30 -£35K trade in by various dealers. He was trying to sell for close to £39K privately which maybe was too high.
But although we did some road trips together it was the Bathurst S that got more attention plus always reminded me of why I love it so much.Perhaps if the VXR8 was not around then a C63 could be an option, but really depends on what you want !!

I do like the Merc 63's but running costs could be very high, it's always an unknown on that aspect, a FI VXR8 could be similar in power on the road with less running costs if the st hits the fan, the Merc has far more refinement but I think the R8 wins all round biggrin

To be fair this is probably not the greatest place to ask opinions on other cars, we are all on this forum for a reason, if you put this on the pistonheads General gassing station the opinions will be completely different, unless of course you wanted to be put off in which case good move!

True, trouble with the General Gassing lot is you'll get a load of those that have never driven or even seen a Ro or R8 commenting on ancient handling and build quality. Both of which we know is bks. The C63 does seem the logical "pedigree" option, many of the e60 m5 and e92 m3 owners have switched to the c63.

I cannot see the running costs being any worse than an R8, except for the dealer service price. Thing is, you will get that engine, that noise, that additional quality but at a loss of individuality and the fact everyone will consider you as a Gumballer. The last bit alone would put me off

Hi
Ive been lucky enough to own one r8 6.2 and a couple of c63s in estate and saloon form.
The r8 as you all know is a big car that rocks at idle and sounds really fantastic.
The c63 is a much smaller and compact car so you will notice a difference both inside and if you use boot space, not mentioning that it drives much better and spins the wheels less!
The performance of the c63 is immense for a normally aspirated engine.
The older pp cars had lsd as standard, the newer ones only have it and cost more in the pp+pack so do some research.
All cars can be remapped to 510-520 ish, anything more will cost you plenty, as one over on the mercedes forum has supercharged his to 700+.
The noise is quite different from the vx, less rumble but screams at higher revs.- I had wortec on my r8 and really missed the big v8 noise although the '63 is hardly a shrinking violet, it needs to be revved to get the best out of it
As some here have mentioned there is no manual version, and the auto 7speed is very slow on shifts and takes a bit of getting used to, don't expect accurate changes!!- it is well recognised that it is the downfall of the car, it does have adaptable dampers but is still VERY much harder than the soft riding r8.
Running costs are petrol (it prefers super) 15-19 (I could get nearly 30 out of my r8).
Tax should be the same as r8
Insurance was double for me and I live low risk 40 yrs+
But the biggest cost was dealer service and attitude, I had great service from picador but poor and very expensive treatment from mercedes, factor about £1200 per year if you go for tier 1 warranty.
Go test drive and see.....
New model out soon twin turbo so there may be a few more available trading into those

Rarity is nice, but when there are other options out there at a similar price point, it's usually driven by demand.

I bet in Australia there are billions of Monaro's and a handful of C63's....

Some of that may be driven by the high tax on imports there.

not so different this way, just saying that we live next to Germany so there is a bigger market capacity. Wonder how many c63's made it in America?
