Morning all,

I was wondering if anyone has ever removed their fuel tanks to get access to the fuel level sensor.

On Saturday night my VXR8 started playing up, fuel gauge says zero, range isn't working, engine light is on and I'm getting P0463, which is indicating the fuel level sensor is faulty.

I've tried clearing the code several times, each time I clear it the fuel gauge starts working for about 10 seconds but then it dies.

Has anyone else experienced this, I've checked under the car and no plugs/wiring appear to be damaged.

The only thing I did different to usual was fill the petrol tank to the absolute MAX the night before.

I thought something was wrong as I managed to drive from Slough to Lakeside in Essex, then into London for the best part of 4 hours and then half way back towards Essex and apparently only using 1/4 tank of fuel.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Paul

Never had an issue luckily, if you lift up rear seat base, there's a couple of access plates bonded down, bit of heat with a hot air gun should get em off, think the sender unit is on RH side, maybe it just got tangled up on a pipe or wire when it was at its uppermost position

Thank you ever so much, hopefully I'll be able to just remove these plates and free up the level sensor.

It's driving me around the bend.

Thanks again

Just a little update.

As previously stated none of the wiring/plugs under the car appeared to be faulty so I came to the conclusion that one of the floats/sensors must be stuck.

So last night I took the car for a drive, found a nice quiet road and violently drove the car shaking it left and right, hard braking/accelerating etc etc.

This appears to have released the stuck float as everything is now working fine.

so I think I've learn't my lesson, don't overfill the fuel tank

Wow, that's a good fix!

Hopefully you just got unlucky with the stuck float. I brim my tank every time I fill up. Only problem I have with the fuel gauge is how quickly it seems to go down hehe

I was planning on either removing the tank or cutting access holes into the car under the rear seats.

Really glad it's sorted itself out.
