Started to get problems with the ignition barrel on my 'R8 not letting go of the key. Given it a squirt of WD40 but its getting worse. Anyone else suffered from it or any fixes apart from a new barrel?

TIA

How many keys have you got on your keyring? If you have more than just a lightweight fob, then you could save further damage to the barrel by taking everything else off.

I think a rebuilt barrel may mean a trip to a main dealer - so that one can be built that matches the rest of your locks.

WD40 is not suitable for an ignition barrell the correct lubrication would be lock Graphite available at most locksmith shops
it's possible for fluid to reach the electrics at the bottom of the barrell then BOOM

Take a closer look at the key for any burrs damage etc it's more likely to be the key at fault
Have you tried your spare.
It's my trade.

Duh! Hadn't even thought to try the spare. I'll swap them over & also get some of that graphite stuff.

Cheers guys.

Graphite... use a pencil, scrub it all over the key lumps and bumps for use as a dry lubricant

I had issue with my R8 barrel, in end had it all replaced for new. Bit of a saga but Bellingers sorted it in the end with parts being sourced and supplied by Walkinshaw as Vauxhall supply was very long time !!

Bad ignition locks are the most well-known issue on the GTO. Every one needs to be replaced by the upgraded part, or trouble will sooner or later ensue.
