Yes, it's very similar to a Vauxhall Senator amd the bonnet line looks odd...

It's the last Aussie engine, and at the time it was slated as not having enough power, or being readily tuner friendly. However, since they swapped to the LS engines, people popped their rose tinted glasses on, and bemoaned the fact that Holden no longer had a V8 engine foundry.

You can't win - and that engine is still inferior to the LS engines (IMHO), which is why they don't command the prices that LS engined cars do.

THIS IS A LETTER I GOT FROM HOLDEN AFTER PURCHASING ONE OF THESE VS SLR/5000 COMMODORES

> We advise that the VS series SL/R5000 vehicles were part of a limited Victorian Dealer Marketing Group (VDMG) promotion, with the SL/R5000 package being created and supplied by Holden By Design (HBD) and fitted after the vehicles were delivered to their respective Holden Dealers.
>
> Please note that GM Holden Ltd. and HBD (now known as HSVi) are seperate companies and as such, our vehicle records will only reflect the pre-SL/R5000 state of the subject vehicle.

> We regret to advise that HSVi no longer hold the records for these vehicles and as such, are unable to identify vehicles fitted with this pack. As such, the only way to identify a 'genuine' VS SL/R5000 is to look for the HBD Build Plate, affixed to the firewall of the vehicle.

Holden is part of GM (has been since 1931) so it is a GM engine.

As for the cars, number 29 and number 67 are for sale at the moment in Aus.

29 is $7,400 and 67 is $9,995. Both are AT: only 33 ATs were built along with 58 manuals.

It's the Holden 308/304 it is very tunable, aftermarket cams heads blowers are all easily available. The engine powered all the hot v8 toranas and commodores and was only discontinued with the VT series 2 commodore and the arrival of the gen 3 v8. All the valuable Holden's ie A9'x Toranas Brock commodores HSV VL Group A etc have a variant of this engine. It also powered the Bathurst winner 12 times. Yeah it's old tech now but it's still a good engine.

All of which (above) makes this a very appealing car. Well to me anyway.

Love the registration plate on it too.

Really can't see me adding it to the cars I already have, sadly. The missus would kill me. And then pay to have me resurrected, so she could kill me again.
