So that's me convinced. I'll be using winter tyres every year from now on!
I have always said this.... once you have tried them you will NEVER need convincing again. No amount of 'driving to the conditions' would ever remotely account for the grip winter tyres offer.

I run mine on an AWD car from October to March.

I've been using Winter tyres now for about 6 years. I will always use them. I've given up trying to explain to people the difference between a Winter tyre and a modern summer performance tyre. These people talk about wasting money. The single most important part of any car is it's tyres. Anyone who think tyres are a waste of money is just a F idiot.

I really think we should start making Winter tyres a legal requirement like lots of other countries in Europe. My biggest fear when I'm out driving in the Winter is the F idiots who think they can drive their cars with the wrong tyres on who hit a patch of ice and then slide into Me. Or even when I'm walking and I see cars flying down the road towards me.

If idiots can not learn then we need laws to make them.

I just went to MyTyres and chose your E39 M5 rear tyre size - 275 35 18. Then I hit All-season and it said None found. Summer 36 found. Winter 1 found.

For your fronts 245 40 18 there are All-season None, Summer 222 and Winter 82.

So for your M5 they don't exist according to MyTyres.

When I bought my new shape 3 series last year BMW had a promotion on Winter tyres so they were in the showroom and the sales people were pushing them hard. Probably because run flats are even worse in Winter with their Titanium tyre walls compared to a go flat tyre.

About the same time people stopped using 13" wheels with 70 profile tyres.

If he is driving the Corvette then he must be taking Viagra. They're small little blue pills.
