Yep they're going to keep going with the oil and gas until recovery is uneconomic. Our legislation is just a handy facilitator for that. They may reign back the coal a little if urban air pollution continues to rise unabated.

The climate is undoubtedly changing, it always has done, perhaps the trend to a wetter climate if not warmer climate is happening here.

Gore has increased his personal wealth at least 100 fold on the back of his climate crusade. Seems to be the case here too, with people who had power, or have been awarded power on the back of their shrewd and benevolent foresight, viewing this as an opportunity to line their pockets at astonishing speed in a highly distorted and abuse riddled 'green energy' system. The money to be made is staggering and is the main driving force behind these paternal saints, most of whom are in reality far more aggressive capitalists than any of us. Perhaps ignoring Ringram.

Too cynical? hehe I've got a forest of 400 foot turbines and 130 acres of solar panels surrounding my house, all constructed on virgin grade 2 agricultural land and locked in at circa £750,000+ per annum rent, ignoring operator profits. The agricultural income from that area may have varied from £0 to about £45,000, depending on the growing season and market value. So long as we pay and obey we can be saved from this unfolding climate horror smile

That's rich from someone with a vested interest in the Warmist theory! I'd prefer to work on honest science with definitive empirical data rather than being manipulated by dishonest scientists, lying government and the rest of you people who have joined that gravy train!

If its really that important why are we wasting billions on a new train set to appease our European masters instead of building some state of the art nuclear power stations?

Your windmills are no answer to the needs of a growing population and cost us more than they need to. Especially on a calm day.

+1. That's where I am with the job, which is why the book was such a good read. The money involved in this climate levying cheat is indeed staggering.

India is nuts too, but I prefer it. The smog in China, the massive construction, and the complete lack of sun-rises and sun-sets (just a grey haze) leaves a lasting impression.

Genuine question; At what temperature in history was the Earth at an ideal level, and what level of CO2 'should' we have in the atmosphere? biggrin
Not sure, but the Romans had vineyards and were producing wine in Yorkshire - so that I'd be happy for that level of warmth to return. beer

Nice.

But I think I prefer late Jurassic, when CO2 levels where several times more than now, and consequently nice and lush and green.

owning a Monaro is a very green thing to do!
I have owned my 56 plate car from new - my carbon foot print is decreasing each day - I could have bought an electric car 9 years ago and have filled my own land fill by now with exhausted batteries!
I have told my kids that I am doing my best to burn all the nasty carbon fuel I can so there's none left to effect them when they grow up

I told mine that though wars are fought in the name of religion, it is usually over oil - so the sooner we burn it all, the sooner we'll have world peace. smile

I could no longer live with myself so:

No one should feel guilty here with all the tax we pay. If any guilt should be felt it is with other uses such as domestic heating and air travel which are only lightly taxed. And of course having children who carry on the good work trashing the planet when we have gone - the selfish gene.

Really?

Who has the largest fleet of LPG/CNG Buses and Taxis in the World?
Who has banned any fossil-fuelled vehicles within 1KM of any World Heritage site?
Who has an 'MOT' style test that doesn't give a st if your wheels are falling off, but you must pass the emissions test!
(Put the vast numbers into perspective, at the beginning of 2012, 20300 CNG busses, 85000 CNG three-wheeler taxis, 8000 CNG minibuses, 17000 CNG taxis and 16000 CNG cars run on Delhis roads.)

I think you'll find we've come a long way!

(Sorry to add, having spent 200 hours on a Plane this Year, I'm pretty sure I'm going to Carbon-Offset Hell anyway biggrin )

I'd lend you a couple of trees, but current theory is that a tree will release as much carbon dioxide while it's rotting down, as it converted to oxygen in its entire life.

I think the German idea of burying CO2 is the best technological idea - unless the aliens land and they breath in CO2 and p!ss petrol. hehe

I think that being concerned over human CO2 emissions is a red herring, whilst ignoring real pollution is a travesty.
