Went to look at at very low mileage 56 plate monaro yesterday. All lovely until I opened the boot, eh, where's half the boot gone? Argh wasn't expecting that! Sorry old news, I'm sure, but boot capacity is quite important to me - humph. Was the original location for the fuel tank really that dangerous?

Only for US legislation. I've never heard of any problems with the original location. Still, if you're now looking for one with a bigger boot, you should save yourself some money on the road tax, as most (if not all) were registered before the tax hike in March 2006.

The VXR8 has a huge boot (for our zimmer frames) if thats what you need, or a UTE load bay is reeeeeaaaaally long

I was under the impression that the fuel tank relocation was to accommodate the dual exit exhaust?

It's a coupe at the end of the day though, it was never really going to be all that practical. I mean even with the seat folded forward its a bit of a squeeze for anyone to get in the back.

I miss the big boot of my LS1 VXR, made fishing trips much easier but I prefer the dual exhausts on the LS2 now biggrin

Vxr8 is probably the answer. It's just I'm a sucker for a coupe, don't know quite why. Disappointed as I had the maths all worked out.

At the risk of a total flameage...have you seen a VXR8 and Monaro side by side ? For me the choice became a no brainer once I had wink

I initially was after a Monaro VXR and attended a local meet to have a nosey around some cars, there were around 7 or 8 Monaro's of various guises and then James in his blue VXR8. Within a month I had one of the 25 blue VXR8's sitting on my drive (with a HUGE boot) cool

Depends what you looking for in a car... im 38 years young and bought the VXR8 as the sensible family car too mooch about in. I have my toys to keep me happy/scared so decided on some luxury and space in the form of the later 4 door barge.

Big boot Ro is great, but shame about the stupid design of hinges eating into that boot space...

See a 4door gts has a large boot. It's great.

I did see a relocation on one to put the tank in to the spare wheel well and in to the full boot floor. You loose some height but keep the depth. And get dual exhaust. Lot of work though.
