I don't know tbh, this is my first V8 and haven't modified it yet. Was hoping for some collective wisdom smile

I do drive my car round town a lot so really need the low speed to be nice but would like big top end numbers.
Before you start messing with it, it may be an idea to see what the warranty situation is. I think your new motor will have more than enough poke to start off with.

Have come across this "simple" conversion for LS engines to retrofit variable valve timing http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/hrdp-1007-gms-.... Looks like it could be an interesting mod to help with drivability on higher power specced cams.

What are peoples thoughts on it?
It is interesting. Very much so. Shame that the earlier cars ECU's cant support it.

But that said, with the supercharger, even with a good cam which will make more top end power, you will still have more torque early on than you can possibly use.

Great idea for N/A but less so in your case.

Would it help stop the lumpy idle of a higher end cam, or is that more down to overlap?

More down to overlap. Any half sensible blower cam should idle OK.

1.8 MILES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Walk it or buy a bike and save all that cold wear on the engine. rolleyes

Still I suppose as it's a new toy, never like not warming up any engine let alone my Gen-F.

It's a car, it will be fine. Never damaged the corsa which warms up slower.

Thought I was bad with my 3 mile journey, to be fair though if I use the r8 I take a detour which is about 8 miles lol!

Until someone has shown some proven and real benefits from moving to this...you'd be crazy to try.

If you're struggling to make decent power/torque everywhere with a conventional setup, something is badly wrong

Once again, a large part of why the OEM use VVT will be emissions.

Someone has to be the crazy fool to try it to see if there is any benefits! rofl

If you've deep enough pockets for the tiny gains...and unknown reliability, go for it

But when it's easy to get known good gains for a fraction of the cost with conventional tuning setups....it just makes little sense
