Hi James just clarifying nice traffic officers , if the bloke worded things the way you say he has 1 I don't think he will come to your address , and 2 he prob won't ever see you again , it sounds like he's saying I'm right but I will give you words of advice, if that makes sense

If he called round my house and asked me to hold it at 4k from cold Id tell him to take a hike and I then ask for his details and registered office so I could complain about his poor attitude and that I felt threatened, also mentioning that I would seek legal advce about feeling victimised and intimidated at my own home.

If your doing burn outs in public and 6k revs through town then fair enough, cruising on the motorway... Get a life officer!
The issue I have with asking you to do such things...

Unless he actually witnessed me revving and driving in such manner in order to make noise....WTF right has he to push me into revving in such a manner.

IS he going to go into the woods and start cutting trees down and measuring how loud they are, in case they might annoy someone if they fall over ?

Last year I was going through Hindhead tunnel and failed to notice a police bike which was behind me all the way through the tunnel. My heart sank when I noticed him but he passed me and have me a thumbs up! Suppose I was lucky it was an office that appreciated a decent noise

He reckons hes going to call round to my home and check it, or if he sees me out on the road hes going to stop me and check
Is it a legal requirement for the car to conform to regulations when it's sitting in the garage and not being driven? If so, surely it's technically illegal to remove an exhaust during service or repairs?

I know this sounds a silly statement but the mobile phone thread suggests that technically if you park up, get out of the car and make a call you could still be in breach of the law because the journey hasn't finished. I can't imagine it ever happening, just imagine the newspapers...

Like I said, the country is on a high security alert, we have the threat of being killed or maimed by radical idiot terrorists, the police are complaining about cuts and lack of resources, but this officer has time to waste on an exhaust?

Message to said officer. With the supposed meagre resources available to you, I suggest you don't waste money buying dB meters, and prioritise your time on what most people are concerned about in the real world.

A guy driving down a (noisy) motorway should be way down your list, and you need to keep us all on side for when the going gets really tough, which it inevitably will.

This is a real shame for me, having sung the praises of the British bobby to my antipodean mates, against what they have to put up with down there. Just my 2p.

If stations have been issued with db meters then there will inevitably be some who feel the desperate need to use them on the general public, and we who run Wortecs or other decent pipes (most of us probably) will be the fodder as an easy target!!

Exactly, and I've been saying this for years.

If that's how low the cops are having to stoop to get tickets under their belts, clearly there is no need for them to be in the job. If there are cuts to be made...it's blatantly clear where savings could be made. By sacking these wastes of space and parasites on taxpayers funding.

I had a chat with VOSA a few years back.

The rules are vague, and basically come down to the policeman's opinion.

Regards exhaust testing at MOT,the MOT inspection manual,Section 7.1.4 states;

"Assess subjectively the effectiveness of the silencer in reducing exhaust noise".

Reasons for rejecting;

"A silencer in such condition,or such a type,that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition".

I expect all the modified exhausts on the forum are louder than standard,or why bother changing them.

I suppose at least if you have a walkinshaw exhaust you could point out its the same one fitted to a bathurst so they can't really complain? As for wortec, i'd be tempted to claim there are so many of them fitted these days that they are more standard than the factory fit smile

If you could get this in writing from Vauxhall UK you might have a chance of an argument.

And yes, they'd find anything to complain about, the law is on their side and the onus is on you to prove they're wrong after they accuse you. Which is baffling.

Yeah i've had an incident in the past where i've had the auto box in sport popped off a roundabout onto a dual carriageway only to see a police car in the left lane. I pulled in behind them because I needed to turn off at the next roundabout and the box shifted down into second and held it there are 5000rpm behind them while I groped for the sport button and they didn't say anything so... smile
