I just been reading that the rear subs in all the G8's in the USA where wired wrong, everyone that has swapped the wires over are now saying that the stock system sounds really good now, has anyone tried this or checked that VXR8's are wired the wrong way too?

Interesting theory, wanna try reversing them on yours and letting us know? smile

Given that they only add a marginal amount of kick, inverted polarity would go a long way to explaining the lack of bass.

Also I'm not 100% on how the wiring to the subs goes but I do know that the stock E1 (original VXR8) head unit has an internal crossover that limits bass going to the rear speakers, I found this out when I wired in an under seat sub and found notably less bass on the rear instead of the front channels, this was confirmed by friends in the biz over in Oz.

IIRC I think Granby just changed the wires over from inside the boot on the speakers, might need a soldering iron tho ?

Correct, the rear subs are out of phase and i was surprised how much more bass there was when i rewired them, it's not earth shattering bass but well worth doing as it's a zero cost mod smile

Did you desolder and resolder the wires over on both subs from inside the boot?

What do you need to look for again Ian?

I know I've got the Rockford Fosgate Sterio upgrade in mine but they only change the door speakers, not the ones on the back shelf.

1000watt is good, 1003watt is better hehe

I decided to get the soldering iron out and swap the wires over, very easy to do, if I can get in the boot anyone can!!! LOL
Definitely makes a better sound from the standard stereo, took ten minutes to do and makes a lot of difference, had to lower the base on the head unit controls and went one digit away from the rear on the fader, can crank the volume right up with much tighter base.

As you can see in the photo, no need to remove anything to get to the speaker, just swap the wires so the yellow one is nearest the seats and the green nearest the bumper.

Hmm - I have a pair of Kicker subs in those locations - installed by previous owner. What's the chances they'll be out of phase? confused

I done this around 3 years ago, then got laughed at when I mentioned it made a marginal difference, that said haven't used the speakers since having the bi modal fitted.

Glad to see you can fit in the boot though Mick lol
