Monaro bonnet release
Discussion
I bought a new cable ages ago as mine was stretched., needing 2 people to open the bonnet.
Finally opened the box today to find it is an assembly including the release lever etc.
Ccan anyone tell me how to get at, and replace, the release lever? Seems I need some dash panels off - at least the lower one, and maybe the side vent?
There are no obvious screws except the one inside the vent so, atypically for me I thought I'd ask 'what and how' (rather than doing my usual 'dive in to the sound of brittle plastic clips snapping' )

You probably don't need to fit the new one, lift the bonnet and look at the hole that the bonnet pin goes into find the cable coming from it and follow it till you find a clamp with a screw in it (you'll probably need to remove the cover over the radiator to find it ). Slacken the screw then pull any slack out of the cable and re tighten the clamp screw then get someone to pull the lever whilst you look in the pin hole to check the catch clears the hole .
Just to add if the pin hole is clear when you pull the cable but the bonnet is still hard to open it is probably the pin in the bonnet that needs centralising
You could do that by loosening the nut at its base slightly so it moves about but still tight enough to grip get someone to pull the lever and close the bonnet gently so the pin moves to the centre of the hole in the front panel then lift the bonnet and re tighten the nut without moving the pin.

You have to remove a few other bits of plastic to get at the bonnet lever. This is from my Commodore days, Monaro should be similar.
Remove the rocker cover panel insets. They might have Monaro/Vauxhall/VXR or in really bad error of judgement Ford on them. They normally just clip into the lower door sill. Underneath them are 3 or 4 bolts to release the plastic trim. I am guessing you shouldn't have to remove all of them only the front ones or at the least undo them so you can get at the screw hidden near the front of it.
If you undo all 4 and it is still not allowing access, undo the one at the bottom of the B pillar (where the seatbelt is) that should release that whole bottom item. All this is to allow access to one of the screws for the piece of plastic where the bonnet release is.
There is another screw which might involve releasing the trim under the steering wheel, Pull that down where the fuses hide behind.
That might then allow access to that screw. That is both of the screws undone.
Now pull the piece around the bonnet release lever rearwards as it slides into another piece of trim to stay in place. Then you should be able to get that piece out from around the bonnet release lever.
Bit hard to explain it without pictures.
