Stage two of my audio upgrade (not exhaust)

Changed the head unit for a pioneer sat nav last time round and upgraded the front speakers.

Now I have gone to town and spent a load of money with my car audio installer

Moved front coaxial JL Audio 6" speakers to the rear

Installed audison prima 5.25" 100w rms components to the front.

Dynamated front doors and rear quarter panels

Installed under rear shelf on MDF mounts Hertz 8" 250w rms subwoofers and dynamated rear shelf.

Installed Genesis profile 5 amplifier in boot recess. 4x90 + 1x390 rms

All wiring to boot

Installed rear reversing camera.

Took the entire day. Most of the interior of the car had to come out. It's a big
Job, but now sounds fantastic. Mid range is far clearer, highs are sharper and lots of bottom end.

I have taken some footage on video and hope to edit together.

Next meet I will be happy to show it off.

They need bedding in so the amps are turned down, and the shop will retune in a couple of weeks.

Not as much thump as my last instal, but a better front end phase.

Still enough bass to render the rear view mirror useless

No idea if what I use them for is any more than 'bedding in' volume, but I know my 4 year old likes the 'angry music' in the 'angry car' hehe

Seems like a lot of work! All in a day too!! How easy is it to put a reverse camera in?

In comparison to your install which involved fitting the subs from above the shelf they felt that it would be easier to mount mine from underneath so that a change out could be made easily and no cutting of metal would be needed this keeping the integrity of the car. Not sure it would be possible on a small boot model, but the baskets don't half look mean.

Need photos!

No cutting on mine, but yes, gutting the interior takes a little doing (although honestly I've done it a few times at this point...could do it in under an hour I'm sure).

Easy if you've got everything gutted anyway!

I bought a reverse camera from eBay that replaces the drivers side number plate light.

It slots in in a couple of seconds. However you need to run the cables to the front of the car so you need to dismantle the interior. It also required both the inner carpet and the outer plastic trim panel to be removed from the boot lid. The gromit needs to be drilled into to slot the camera cable through and then re sealed with silicon.

All the new cables they made up in a new loom to run down the passenger side of the car.

They had not done a monaro before, but where impressed with the quality of construction of trim as everything was either screwed or had good quality clips. They liked the tweeter locations. The sound quality initially was not great and took a fair amount of tuning up with the eq settings on the amplifier and head unit. The subs if driven hard create a lot of rattles which we will sort out over time with Dynomat.

Speakers are now bedded in and bass has more punch and goes pretty low. Sounds amazing unless you drive the system hard and then the lack of a box around the subs makes them work a little too hard.

Rear reverse camera is great, but LED lights in number plate holders are flagging up a blown rear bulb which is not the case. Will invest in some better LED's with built in resisters.

Some photos of boot install

Amp perfectly fits recess like a silk glove

Sub woofer dangling down

Reverse camera in situ

Close up of amp a thing of beauty

Any links to the camera that you used? Looking into this for my car, the number plate light seems like a neat option.

Camera was purchased from eBay and came from Hong Kong

Was about £12 delivered. I can't easily give you a link as have limited 3G connection as abroad.

I found it by typing monaro camera and hsv camera on eBay. You can also try Holden camera. It was from a commodore.

Only just seen these pics, looks very tidy and did consider the underslung subs myself. I'm sure your install knocks spots off my budget effort, but it's sufficient to shake the windows so I can't imagine what yours is like. My 4 year old was pissing himself laughing when I played him this earlier in the car...

Running a pair of 8" JL ZR800's up front with a set of Jl ZR 650CSi's components. In the Monaro.

So tweeters in factory location, then the front end is an 8" mid bass and 6.5" mid range in each door in custom builds. (not finished but it works and doesn't look awful)

Rear is running standard speakers with headunit power.

With a JL 12w7 sub in the back. Front end is run from a HD 600/4 and the sub from a HD750/1.

I do have more speakers for the rear, but need another HD600/4 yet. An thinking I want to swap the 750/1 for a 1200/1 it's just lacking something. Sounded so much better on my old slash 1000/1 might just be the HD amp I'm not getting on with. But I wanted to do this as a functional install. Right now the sub can be taken out in a couple minutes and bolted back in again in the same amount of time.

The front end sounds great though, even without the sub it the 8" mid basses help in a big way, an the door's are going to be changed completely in future. Which should make them sound better still.

Originally I was going to power the system with a JL audio 500/5 slash series amplifier.

100x2 front
25x2 rear
250w subs.

Then the genesis came up and I love their warm rich sound. Also the slash was a bit too big to mount perfectly in the boot without building a false rear for it to mount in.

I think I will use the JL on my 635csi. However it's a power hungry beast and can literally drain a battery in a few minutes. That is unless anyone on here wants it and I can pass it on for what I bought it for.

Happy to let people have a listen next time I am at an event. Thinking of coming to thunder road. Was going to come along with a couple of cars if allowed. Would I be able to bring along a 911 and an Aston.
