Hi all.

Last time I was on this forum was in 2007 when I was lucky enough to have one of the first VXR8's in the country. Loved the car then but sold it after 18 months to move upwards and onwards in the automotive world. I have had some fun in that time with some amazing cars but.........those days, and those cars actually, have left me wanting a VXR8 again. So strange. Cannot explain it really but thats it.

Anyway, enough history. Back in 07 I had a manual, red LS2 variant. Or was it LS1 in those days? Can't remember. I slapped a Wortec exhaust on and that sound still sends chills down my spine. I see now there are not a whole lot for sale. Probably a good sign. Probably sacrilegious but being a bit older and not much wiser, I think I want an auto this time. Also an LS3. I absolutely want to upgrade the exhaust again too but I'm thinking Walkinshaw this time. Please tell me they still fit parts for the VXR8. Looking to spend up to 20k. That is on the car, not upgrades!

So I'm after advice from you experts. Firstly are my thoughts valid? I'm open to suggestion! The auto seems to get good press and do think I want one this time. I also take it these cars are fairly bullet proof with high mileage. In fact what is considered high mileage? Any things to look for when buying a used one?

Cheers. Sorry for all the questions.

They are good cars to let go.

Yours would have been the LS2 as that was the 6.0 engine that was fitted untill they went to the LS3 6.2 engine.

Do you know your build number as it maybe owned by somebody on the forum.

Happy hunting for a VXR8.

I have An E2 version and Auto as well as that is what i wanted.

Yes Walkinshaw still supply and fit parts as HSV is one of there companies.

I don't know the number. Shame. Would love to know how the old girl is getting on.

Jez's old VXR8 is at Elite, I think.

LS3 auto with around 2k miles on it. More than you want to spend, but unused for 5 years.

Unfortunately Preciousmetal (James from Elite) doesn't update his stock often enough, so you never really know what he has, until you ask.

Thanks for the jibe Ian, HSV stock is constantly changing weekly and no point paying Autotrader for 5 similar adverts !!

PS Jez's car is sold and now down near you, but snowwolfs S/C one is here biggrin

I was going to give elite a call. The 2 grey ones they list look nice.

I px'd my old vx for a Ferrari 360. Then an F430 and most recently a Testarossa. Fabulous machines add you'd expect. But after 5 years I've had it with these sort of cars. Especially with the Testarossa you end up not wanting to drive it because you worry what might happen. And the maintenance costs can and have been silly. I got lucky though. In the 18 months I owned the Testarossa it happened to double in value. So I sold it before the next financial crash!

And here I am wanting a vxr8 again. Even despite those cars I owned, the vx still gives me goose bumps when I see one. Oh and the Wortec was at least the equal of any of the Ferrari's.

And I don't want a new one for 2 reasons. First I'm just not spending 50k on a car ever again. And I'm not convinced the new one looks as good add the old one.

I'm proper excited about getting one again. Just want to get it right!

That's some real nice cars you have had there.
Always liked the 355 myself. Never owned one though.

Then there's the F40! WOW!!!

As for the VXR8 itch,, had mine now 2 years nearly, love every minute
of driving it, should drive it more really, but have a van as daily use.

Had a Wortec put on my car, one of the best things I've ever done.

Good luck finding the right one though, it's out there somewhere!!!

Regards.
Dave.

The new one is definitely worth it. And it is the best they have ever made. I previously had an Ls2 and LS3, and have to admit you got spoiled with the overall package in the Gen-F. One thing against it, though. Too quiet even with the free exhaust mod. It just needs a Harrop catback. But then my fears is it will drone again at motorway speeds. Oh, and I can't afford it wink So I will just keep moaning for now wink

OK so I didn't hang about. I've bought, (well put a deposit down for), the grey LS3 currently on the Elite website. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/v...

Really happy. Just what I was after. It has nothing done to it and has relatively low mileage, 37K. Already booked into Monkfish for the Wortec exhaust though have to wait until September for that! Elite are also very kindly including a wheel refurb with the price so I've opted for dark grey, (ampahacite maybe?), which should hopefully set things off nicely.

Not sure when the car will be ready but cannot wait to get back in the big old girl!

Cheers

That's quite the car history you have! Shame you had a bit of nightmare with the old Redhead, but doubling your money is never a bad thing!

Glad you found an R8 so quickly. I hope it lives up to your memories/hopes!

I'm considering one, but am wondering if it is silly to have a Monaro AND an R8 at the same time. The missus thinks so...!
