Monaro VXR Prices

I think there will come a point when early vxr8 prices will drop below that of good VXR Monaros. Given how well you know the market James, I'm curious to read how low you think VXR8 prices might get.
as Monaro VXRs are holding prices its keeping the VXR8 prices from dropping lower but Monaro VXRs upto £13k seem to the best price range - anymore and buyers look at VXR8s Codswallop said:
Interesting - personally I was hoping VXR8 prices might go the same way as other enthusiast sport saloons with large (well, large-ish) engines such as the ZT V8 and E36 M3 saloon. The prices on both of those dropped to sub £5k a few years ago and now appear to be on the rise.
The market is high. People see no point in having money in the bank, and as the bubble grows, others realise they can borrow money cheaper than car prices are rising. In years to come it will the standard cars in original paint low miles and mint which will fetch the money. I would say there will also be a widening gap between a standard VXR8 v Bathurst..LS2 v LS3 and manuals v autos. Other issue is finding a decent monaro given there are less and older. Some used all year round if not waxoyled etc on the underside are very rough under there. Shame I could not of had one from new as the it would have been on the axle stands for a week and would have got proper full biz on the underside before being used.

Has anyone scrapped a Monaro purely because its worn out/tired?
Mines due its M.O.T soon and I suspect it will require a fair bit of work to get it to pass.
This got me thinking, I know some treasure their cars, and no doubt these will last the test of time but surely mine can't be the only one out there that is in poor/tired condition as its been used from day 1 as a daily user.
I figured its all to do with this thread because surely as the numbers decrease, prices will rise?

What do you think the scrap value of a monaro vxr would be? either sell the whole car to a specialist breaker, or do it yourself and sell all of the parts? Mines got 123k on it now and ive just spent £2k to get it right again. surely if you keep up with the general maintenance and the oily bits are functioning ok then the mileage just becomes a number. Ok it wont be worth as much as a minter thats been kept in a garage forever but its still worth decent money, especially the way the market is going at the moment. What do others think?

I'm no expert, but if you're thinking of it as a collection of bits and not a working car, the expensive parts seem to be: engine + gearbox + vxr body-kit(bumpers/spoiler/bonnet/rocker panels) + wheels. Assuming they are ok I wouldn't want to be low balled too hard...you would have to talk to Raving or Brett though.I think you need to look at old American and Australian muscle cars, if any particular car has a following then someone in the future will want one. There are lots and lots of worn out cars being restored.
If you you have a top spec car in good original condition then fine, but in the real world these cars will be thin on the ground.
So if you do have a high millage daily driver, just drive it service it and like any other car keep an eye out for rust, and even if is in a state after 30 years,it can still be restored.
Don't forget people love old car's,like your everyday Cortina, Capri, and VW's ect. The bottom line is that nostalgia sell's..... and they spend a fortune on them!
I believe a Monaro or VXR8 will be no different.
