Hi

Managed to loose my VXR8 key on a remote Welsh mountain a couple of weeks ago so need to order a replacement.

Got an initial quote from Vauxhall of £160 which now I've come to order has jumped to £251 (£111 for a key, £75 for a remote & £65 for coding).

Has anyone else had to order a new key & what did it cost?

(Monkfish cant do it as unlike Monaro keys it needs coding through Vauxhall's own system)

I know that Timpsons can code the transponders, as I got them to cut a key with one in for our Ute, if you wanted to go down the Ebay route - but you'd still need Vx or Walkinshaw to code the lock/unlock part,

I can't comment on the cost but all I can say is that you need to be very very careful about who/how you code up your new keys.

I have learnt - for example - that a VXR8 will not start under any circumstances unless you have a minimum of 2 keys coded to the car. I have also learnt that if you mess round too much trying to code and decode keys, the immobiliser system decides that someone is attempting to nick the car and goes into full lock down mode. (that bit cost me a trip home in a courtesy car and a trip back again once mine had been sorted out) and won't let you code or decode ANY keys to the car - a bit of a problem when you need the second one coded to avert my first point.

So, however painful the cost might be, I would strongly advise against trying to take short cuts.

Walkinshaw can supply and code the keys. Was arrpox £200 all in last time I checked.

I went the Ebay route and Vauxhall couldnt programm the flip key to work, ended up having to buy another flip key from Vauxhall to make it work.

As mentioned above, you need TWO keys to be able to program (your current one and the new one) as the programming process only works in pairs.

Thank you all very much for the info, sounds like I'm better to be safe & get it done correctly by VX & pay the £250.

That's turned out to be a very expensive hole in my pocket! If it didnt happen so far away from home I'd spend a weekend back on the mountain looking for the dam thing!

Check different dealers around your area, some where charging more than others when I was looking.

I'd just call Walkinshaws. They can do this. It wouldn't suprise me if Walinshaws do the key coding for the VX dealers anyway.

Bellingers coded my key for me when I got my second key. Only had one key when it was delivered!

ETA - They do order it through Walkinshaw though

Would do but the cost of the petrol to get there and back makes it a non goer.

That's easily mitigated - just have some other Walkinshaw goodies installed on the car while you're there smile

I believe Tech 2 with the VXR8 option on the card will code the key in as long as you have the code.

Chances are you'll need TIS security access for this too :/

As I said previously, VXR8 dealerships can code these keys. I was at bellingers when they coded my new key for me. They did have to order the fob through WPUK
