The problem with big, powerful saloons is that you need to be well into licence losing territory before they will show any real speed advantage. Just enjoy the V8 noise and be thankful you don't have speakers playing fake engine noise into the cabin laugh

That's true. The V8 noise is melody to my ears, especially when I'm gonna get a decent exhaust smile

The vw s aren't slow, and the DSG boxes makes them rapid.

I have a vrs Octavia diesel estate 2015 with the dsg box and it would destroy my monaro Round towns and quick little blasts and that has 184hp!!

My sister has a golf r and that with a remap will push 370hp, not slow by any means and again with the box they are quick.
Modern cars aren't just quick because of power, it's all the gearbox and clever gear ratios matching the engine outputs etc

They are still boring as sin to drive though and I'd rather crawl to work then own a car that farts when it changes gear!

Quick on the road is one thing but that's mostly because for a 100m sprint, traction is king. Make that a mile and suddenly the remapped Golf or RS3 will look very crap indeed.

I agree, my rs3 would get demolished by a high power Hsv from 80 onwards, don't think I'll keep it very long, it's a great bit of kit but lacking the soul of a v8!

Good man, that's a brave thing to admit given it must have cost a bit. Now sell up and come home smile

I came up against a Golf R in my 1997 Legacy - an exact match from 20mph to something way beyond that.

Legacy twin turbo is all top end and if you can keep it on the boil, it flies.

Doesn't come close to an HSV with blower, though...

It will be gone soon, fancied a change, though it would hold its own on a twisty mile lol

I like the HSV being rear wheel drive only. Always keeps you on your toes. smile

And those days I want to feel the stability, I drive my gf's Aygo or my grand cherokee monster :P

IIRC, the 4wd cars were retuned to lower levels, as the 4wd system couldn't take a lot of power.

Correct, it had the transfer box from a Chevy Tahoe or something equally crap. There's a bloke in Aus who built his own using a crashed 4x4.

My iPhone has a life of its own now , putting posts on with out me doing it weird , I think a good set up is the lower levels of power of new the 6.2 gts , too much I think makes it no good in the wet and harder to drive , I just accept I don't have the fastest car but it's a quick car

Also Auto-only - if that makes any difference.
