Thought nice sunny day - good day to take the Monaro to work having not driven it for 2.5 weeks, be good to give it a run out.
Know there have been other discussions on this recently, but......
Went out to car, it won't un-lock on key fob. Didn't have time to muck about so jumped in the other car and will have a proper look when I get home this evening. Now, the range on the key fob was fine before, which makes me think it might not be the key fob battery. The spare is in bits at the moment after I bought a replacement case for it and haven't got around to putting it all back together yet.
If I manually unlock the car, the alarm will sound - but what if it's the car battery that is dead? Am I right in saying that to cancel the alarm, I would need to start the car, but if the battery is dead, I can't!! (assuming the alarm has a back-up battery).
It was a bit sluggish to start the last time I drove it which was after a 2 week rest then as well, but then the battery on the car was only replaced last year. Just worried about setting the alarm off and not being able to cancel it.

If all else fails, disconnect the battery to stop the alarm. 10mm spanner?

If the alarm has a back up battery - don't know where it is?

yes or if you have a set of jump leads then connect them to start it yes the alarm will probably start but if it is that flat that the key fob wont work, then chances the alarm won't sound only make a slight sound once started then should be cancelled.

If the car unlocks and not just one door then car battery may be ok and it could be the fob , 2.5 weeks with no driving and not on charge then car battery maybe getting low

Is there a backup battery? I've disconnected mine variously, and just get a 'plip' when reconnecting the battery.

No I don't think there is on Monaros but there is on Omegas and they catch fireyikes so most people just remove them I have not heard of it in the Monaro though but I am sure I will be corrected if there isbiggrin

Ok, thanks all. I'll try it this evening and see what happens. If I get it going, will take it for a good blast out this evening.

I'm not aware of a back up battery for the alarm , I think a trickle charger may be in order , I think 2.5 weeks and no driving or battery charging is a bit too long ,key fob range seems to get less and less before total failure

I think maybe I'll try putting the other key fob together first as well, so I know I have a working back up.

On my Monaro key fob when I changed the battery it worked as soon as a new battery was in it , it's an easy job to do if you can solder , quicker if two people do it as one pulls the battery the other person un solders it

If the alarm does sound, it should shut up as soon as the key is turned to position II, if it is like other cars - not when the engine starts.

Ok, bigger problem, key in the drivers door lock, does not manually open the car. I literally cannot get into it.

My lock was stiff when my remote did not work, thought I was going to snap the key. Might be worth lubricating the lock

The key was turning, though not as far as I expected it to. Will have to have another go tomorrow in some day light.

Had the neighbour round yesterday evening who's car port it is kept in.
Seems whilst I was away, there was a car alarm going off, but when they looked out of the window, there were no flashers so assumed it wasn't mine. The alarm was on and off for the day and part of the night before the battery gave out, so certainly seems that's what caused a total drain. No idea why it went off though, car looks ok, doesn't look like anyone has tried to get it and no marks to suggest it's got nudged by something in the car park. Ah well, one mystery sort of resolved.
