Monaro CV8 2005. When car is unopened for a while , there seems to be a build up of petrol fumes inside. There are no leaks of any sort from the tank or supply pipe underneath. Has anyone experienced this on their Monaro ?

Cheers

I had this also for a short while, and when driving, thought maybe i had a leaking injector or something, but had MF look at it when in for some other work, and also Holden Racing, and nothing could be found, then it just went away and has never returned.

Bit weirded out by it and was panicking at the time, but if the experts can't find anything (and I sure as hell can't) and it's gone now, maybe it was just a seal had dried out, or something re-seating itself. Who knows.

May sound daft, but my sister had the same issue in her 02 impreza wrx.

It was a recall item in America, what would happen is the fuel pipes would expand and contract although not leaking it would emit the smell, could be a similar issue?

The wife's 300zx does it. On cold mornings the fuel pipes don't fully seal as there old. Never an issue as it does not leak.

Had this on my monaro and it turned out to be bad petrol cap. Got a new universal lockable one from halfrauds which sorted it.

Might be worth checking the pipes near the fuel rail by engine under the plastic engine covers 'cos they can rub.

Well had the new petrol cap on now for a year and smell has come back . Spoken to Roger at MF and he says maybe the tank has rusted through ( ! ). Has anyone had this happen to them ? Seems a bit drastic.

Gonna push an endoscope in the tank to take a look, hopefully its something else. Maybe try an aftermarket cap if the tank looks OK.

Is your tank in the boot then or under the floor

Have you checked this pipe as it's the common problem when you get a petrol smell. It's also what caused Vinces old VXR to go up in flames

My Fiesta suffers a similar problem but is only evident under hard cornering when the tank is fairly full - was traced to a perished seal around the fuel level sender. Could be worth checking as it's an easy and cheap fix

I had exactly this problem and it was exactly as Roger has already told you, the tank is made from very thin metal in a plastic case, so condensation accumulates, thr tank rusts and fuel seeps through microscopic perforations.
