Got about 800 or so miles on my new engine now, drove down to the NEC Classic Car Show today, just pulled into the carpark and the feckin' 'Engine' light came on - I think my car is developing a sense of humour! Put a slight damper on my day to be honest. Drove home okay luckily, everything seems okay, temperatures and oil pressure is fine and it doesn't cut out or anything. Weird one....
NEC show seemed smaller than usual this year, only 5 halls...

Sometimes it happens after a run. It's as if the engine realise it's not in lean cruise mode, and gives the engine an extra shot of juice, which triggers a CEL on the exhaust sensor.

Well on my LS2 it came on a few times over the 18 months I had it, at first i freeked out, but I soon got to realise the car obviously had a sense of humour. I knew it had good oil/pressure and temps. Must have come on 12 times at least, did 8000 miles in that time. Nothing actually wrong other than Christine (the car) sense of humour. Even refused to start once for 20 minutes after we looked at trading for a new GTS and mentioned it sat inside the car outside picadors.

Yeah, I freaked out a bit too - to the point where I actually left the car show a lot earlier than I would normally have done, thinking that if it were to break down then i'd rather it did it in the daylight rather than after dark! I'll keep an eye on it for the next few days and hopefully just get it re-set again when I take it up for it's next oil change in a few months time. smile

As Araf said probably just the lambda sensors, mine used to do it regularly before I got them replaced. Never missed a beat, no overheating and good oil pressure, it freaked me out the first time too but I wouldn't worry about it

It happens, best to carry around a cheap MAC code reader and just plug in and it will tell you what the fault is if minor and just erase the fault, it's usually a fuel fault

In the eight years of a monaro vxr owner ive had this happen a number of times. Had it checked out with a tech 2 reader and every time nothing logged. These cars have strange hissy fits. The same as as the low traction caption comming on now and again.

Yep, every time I give it some beans, low traction warning, even through 4th gear and bone dry roads.

Sometimes minor issues that bring the light on, need scanned whilst the light is on. Sometimes they re-set after key off/on so dont record so can be a bit more awkward to diagnose.

I used to get these too, was almost always to do with the second bank of O2 sensors.

Anyone with a standard exhaust system ever get these? I'd assume not?

Also, some food for thought regarding the 'Low Traction' warning and sometimes accompanying 'graunch':

Depends what you cal standard. We've had one once, but it's standard VXR8 and not the cast headers and big cats that it came with.

Bought a code reader from Amazon for £11 - handy bit of kit! Turns out there was 2 fault codes, both were to do with the cats....so I just erased them and the 'check engine' light has now gone out on the dash. smile
