I've just fitted the third battery to my 2008 VXR8 (build no 1 as it happens).

The one I removed was 2 years 11 months old and was guaranteed 5 years (what ever that is worth in reality).

I wonder if the charging software has a poor algorithm for the charge control.

My software is 020.022.115. Has anyone a later version and do they have batteries that last the full full expect life?

if its any consolation, my car eats batteries on a fairly regular basis - every 2/3 years.

I did get the software version checked out a few years ago since there were - I think - some changes around the charging algorithm - but it was running the latest version. (mine is build 262)

I do recall a BCM (Body Control Module) software update which was available for early VXR8's. This specifically changed the battery charge cycle behaviour. Can't remember the specifics, but I think the update simply raised the lower value of battery 'charge' before a charge cycle begins, to prevent the battery charge from running too low and potentially draining during prolonged periods of the car not being driven.

Afraid I've absolutely no idea what the BCM software version of the pre or post updates for this are, so I can't tell you if yours has this update from the version number you've specified. Any authorised VXR8 dealer should be able to check this for you.

I do remember having my old LS3 VXR8 (build 214) checked and it had the updated BCM firmware loaded already. So I guess there must have been a time in the production line prior to this when the older BCM software was being installed as standard.
