Flugplatz or not to Flugplatz?
Discussion
Having owned a V8V 4.3 (cute but too slow) and then a V12V (brilliant, but had to be sold for deposit on house) I am in market again for a V12V but this time it needs to be a Roadster. Have to have the S with more poke or hope for a manual one day.
I test drove this cheeky looking chappy today; http://is.gd/CUgUhm Definitely felt the extras horses.
My first concern was the Sportshift III. Pistonheaders seem to be fine with it but motor journalists seem to hate it.
Whilst I have not driven a porker with a pdk to make a comparison with journalist's favourite box; compared to a manual V12V the S III is frankly an improvement. It simply changes gear as or about as quick as I might and its really very compliant. Sure playing with the Terminators knob is cool, but its not the easiest of boxes (crunched gears more than once in V12V) and the gear stick is a bit too close for the even gears and we all know about second gear when cold.
So a V12VSR it is.
Now as for the colour. Grey's and blacks are fine but this is not a business car for me or a daily driver, its something to howl around Europe in with the lid down. I think the colour reflects this "fun" aspect.
But whilst I love the colour, will I get clobbered on trade in/sale? It's been up for sale for a while, even though V12V stocks seem to be dwindling which kind of indicates I will have to take a larger than usual hit down the road unless I find someone as daft as I am.
So can I ask for opinions on the colour?

Well I may be biased as I was going to go and have a look at a Flugplatz when I was looking for mine but it sold before I could get there.
Cracking colour in my book and whilst Flugplatz, Volcano Red, Madagascar etc may not be wanted by as many you only need one person who like you and me doesn't want a black or grey one and you have a buyer.
You could even say that whilst it may take a bit longer to move on as there are much fewer bright coloured ones you may actually end up selling for more as there will be little choice for those who want that type of thing. Its just a theory and may not work but I buy my cars for me not the next owner, although I don't think I will be selling mine unless I am forced to as it is just too lovely to let it go.

Who are you buying it for, you or the next owner? So can I ask for opinions on the colour?
Get what makes your day and consider it money well spent.
Oh, and my second gear is perfect, no crunches here.

I may be a little bit biased but I think its a colour that could attract a premium and certainly never a penny less any other colour. If it wasn't for Flugplatz I would still be in the GT3.
It was in fact seeing the car you have driven just out of the corner of my eye as I drove past the dealership that sparked my interest. (I had a Riviera blue 997 Turbo cab 6 years ago).
I couldn't strike a deal with them (although Martin in sales was fantastic) but found mine a few days later.
It's sensational and the gearbox is superb.
I'm south Ches/North staffs so if you fancy a ride I can show you the car and the gearbox in real use

I love the colour but not surprising because we have one.
Will it retain as much value as a silver or black - my guess is itt will because this model seems to suit the brighter colours.
The reaction you get in it is brilliant but just be aware - it does stand out!
As for the SS box drive it as a manual with the paddles and you will have no problems.

Flugplatz is stunning, and suits the car, plus it was a launch colour, so no loss of value. Don't listen to journo's re Sportshift 111, it wouldn't matter to them if they were in a ZF 8 speed, or a PDK/DSG 7 speed, both clinical with less driver involvement, but easy to drive, and less to have to write about!!
From what I have noticed on this colour is that they do not seem to hang around any longer than a black , grey car which means if you do like
the look of it I would not worry about resale value, seems a lot do like it .
Have you seen the car a grange?, you know them they should give you a good deal and its already 12k less!

As mentioned above it was probably the colour (well that and that engine! ) that made me move from my black 4.3, I simply fell in love with it.
In my opinion it suits the car perfectly.
And contrary to others I love the gearbox. As a guide I paid £98k for my 14k mile one back in October (registered December 2013).
A bit of a bargain if you ask me
And of course yet another pic...

I love all the brighter and unusual colours. This is 2016 not 1950, why not go for it a bit.
People look at resale and start to worry whether it's a good or bad idea, but in reality is spending £100k+ plus on any car (other than a ultra rare one) going to be a wise financial choice......probably not, but if you're here then you've probably already made peace with that mindset
Just look at this forum, there are plenty of people who like all sorts of colours on here, and we're the people that would be buying them, so yes there is a market for it I think.
As for resale........if I was paranoid about that i'd be driving a £500 ford escort.....life's too short as they say.

Is that yellow a non standard one it looks to have a lot of metallic in it and almost seems to shimmer like morning Frost does, looks lovely what ever yellow it is.
To my mind the Vantage in all its guises really suits bright colours but at the same time the Ceramic Grey works so well also.

A well designed and proportioned car will look good in any colour. The Vantage is a well designed car.
