The clearer answer lies in valve events not simply duration. You can go larger in duration is you spread the lsa.
Valve overlap is the problem, not duration.

Can you still get a lopey idle and 400-450whp?

Around 400whp (assuming also supporting bolt on mods) and you'll have a choice (choose an appropriate LSA as Ringram said), much bigger though and I doubt you'll get a choice (unless you get ITBs).

Probably. We're on standard VXR8 headers and 2 1/4 exhaust, CAI on standard intake manifold, but have 380 odd at the wheels on the SRR rollers - this is an L76 engine, so not as well spec'd as the LS3. The truck rocks at idle - not massive, but good enough. smile

Alternatively just bugger the tune on your car...tweaking my injector timing removed a lot of the lope from mine. Apparently that's what the mustang boys do...

You are supposed to spray the injector onto a closed valve. Not an open one. Liquid fuel does not burn.
Thats why the spray pattern is narrow, avoids wall wetting.

If you change cam or injectors the timing might need to change.

Great info in here.

Think I'm going the tried and tested monkfish route.

That's what we did. Why invent the wheel, when someone will give sell you a proven package? Speak with them first, as they tweaked the grind on ours, as we weren't going for maximum flow rates and peak figures. smile

I think it's the area under the graph that matters in the real world, and not having all of that at peak revs....

After the year you've had? All credit to you for the perseverance, but I think I'll pass on that one.
