Hey all, I was wondering if anyone can give us some advice.

I am a proud new owner of a Vauxhall Monaro 6.0 LS2 VXR, though I haven't had much chance to drive the car as it is stuck at the garage with some issues.

Other than some minor things, fuel flap lock broken, exhaust rubber mounts snapped. I have a few more concering issues with it atm.

1. There is some play in the drivers wheel, which is according to garage is the steering arm which needs replacing. Does anyone know how much they go for, as the garage is struggling to source one/find a price?

2. The water pump needs replacing as their is a small leak. I have been quoted around £500 + fitting. Does this sound right?

3. There is a knocking sound that is coming from somewhere. I have no idea exactly where nor does the garage, but often happens when you are changing down a gear, when lifting your foot off the clutch you get this knock. The gearbox doesn't seem to be struggling getting into gear or anything like that, though the lever itself is a tad stiff which could be un-related.

I have had the gearbox oil checked and they say it's fine, and the pop-shaft has no play in it. I was wondering that could it be diff related?

Any help would be most appricated smile

Ta!

Monkfish performance will have the items you want.probably in stock and usually next day delivery.

Check the diff mounts. Sourcing a noise on a car can be difficult.

The diff is solid mounted to the subframe on Monaro's so there's some noise/clunking there, also have you had the rear subframe polly bushed? When the rubbers get old they clonk and also the half shafts are preloaded, I think, but either way they can cause a clonk when changing down, none of them are worth worrying about though. As far and the water pump goes either Monkfish as already said or look up Brett, speed4U on this forum, he's got loads of stuff

Monkfish or rock auto for the water pump. Not a big job. Clunking could be driveshafts as h already said. Brett can be contacted on 07790 829102

Sounds like you need to look at the friction modifier in the diff.

Fuel Filler Flap can usually be released by moving the lining on the Flap side of the boot and you will be able to find a cable (Like a bicycle brake cable) and give it a firm tug towards the rear of the vehicle.

Replacing the cable is a rather fiddly job I'm told.

They do clunk (Well my VXR Ro did) it was well known and not an issue just the diff. First time it happened I freaked then read the GM notice about it and it was normal. track rods go - easy and cheap fix- Monkfish. Talk to them they can save you a fortune. These cars are usually an easy fix, from my own experience 8 out of 10 things I thought were issues at the beginning of my ownership were actually normal . Good luck.

Any steering components use Gm parts no aftermarket tat it lasts 5 mins & usually sub standard unless Oe Manufacturer

Diff being bolted direct to frame has nothing to do with any clonks and will usually only resonate or transmit noise when the cradle has poly bushes fitted to its mountings

If there is a clonk on power take up there is more than likely wear in the drive train , eg Spline wear , cv wear etc

None of it is that expensive if you shop right
