As time wears on and the mileage goes up I've noticed my monaros engine is a little bit chappy. Is there anything I can do about this or are there any recommendations ? Internals are stock at the moment.

Is it chattery , aka noisy ? Thicker oil ? Or is something a bit worn and making noise , it's funny how predictive text can make things so hard to send a message , try YouTube there are some great ones posted on there

Perhaps chappy is the wrong word, the general tick of the ls2 has just gotten louder over time although servicing has always been regular and so have the oil changes. I just wondered if this was something that could be getting a bit worn. For example my old cavalier turbo always chaps from cold and that's a 170k engine but changing the hydraulic lifters made it a quiet engine again.

Would that be piston slap?

My thought too, but I thought they moved the gudgeon to stop this before they started to import LS's?

My LS1 has a noticeable ticking noise at idle. The top half of the engine sounds fine as do the various pulley's.
The noise seems to come from low down, possibly the bell housing area.
I have booked the car in for a new slave cylinder and clutch. Hopefully that should sort it.

Given the vague description....it could be absolutely anything

I'd vaguely guess at the lifters. A change of oil may help with a diagnosis.

I'd be inclined do agree with you from the description

Its paranoia setting in. You are just becoming aware of the idiosyncrasies of the car. I'm over it.

I'm inclined to agree with you on this. 2 years of ownership and I'm starting to really focus is on things haha. That said there is a definite increase in the audible tick the engine has, it could simply be from things like the decat pipes accentuating the tick making it more audible, she is over 100k so I think it's a 50 / 50 between something being a but louder and my own paranoia as you say.

I would also say tick from my engine sounds like it's low down. The LS2 ticks, that's just how the engine is, I just feel mine has gotten a lot louder.

The FAST102 lets a lot more engine noise out as it's not as dense and insulating as the original LS2 manifold. It will sound a lot more like a sewing machine now, so could just be that?

Oil level OK?

Absolutely correct James The 102 on my ute made it very noisy, tappety.

The 102 is the only thing that's change recently so I guess that will be it.
At least you guys have helped me confirm it's normal. Oil level is fine I just wanted to be sure smile thanks.

Also look for exhaust manifold blows, a small blow can make it sound like the engines about to fall out!
