After changing the drive shafts on my '04 VXR and sorting out a lot of the clunks, was still getting some odd noises from the rear when turning left at low speeds.

Had chance to get the wheels off Saturday and check the brakes. The pads had seized in the carriers on one side, one pad was pretty much down to the metal. The other side didn't look too great either.

I've been using the uprated pads from monkfish with standard VXR brakes. The friction material on the whole has been great - but the actual metal plate of the pads seems to rust really easily, and were a bit of a mess and probably why they were seized.

Cleaned things up, put fresh pads in and copper greased everything and made sure plenty of movement and no binding. Even regreased the slider pins with proper grease too. Not surprisingly things seem a lot better now.

Calipers are loosing their paint a lot too, flaking off. Possibly time for an upgrade.

Anybody else have any issues with the uprated performance friction pads on stock vxr brakes? I get that these cars and parts are probably built with warmer climates in mind. smile

I have had the performance friction pads on my car for a few years, and they are only now showing signs of corrosion on the backing plates.Apart from that they are fine.
I have the original red painted calipers, and they are also in good condition for a 10 year old car.
I generally wash the calipers when I clean the car,and wax the red painted area of the caliper every year....seems to work!

I don't think that there are any issued with the quality of the friction pads.

Thanks for the reply. My car isn't garaged which may have something to do with it, and possibly a spell of exceptionally wet weather. Had a set or two now and only noticed this on the last rear set. Will check fronts when I get chance.

My car is 12 years old, so possibly the additional 2 years makes all the difference as far as the callipers are concerned. Will look into repainting them.

I've no comments on the pads but I've just refurbished the paint on my pbr calipers ,when I came to media blasting the old Red paint off I noticed that the two front and one rear the paint was literally falling off but the other rear the paint was really difficult to blast off. On inspection I noticed small differences in the castings as if it came from a different supplier so I guess some of the pbr suppliers painted them properly and some didn't

I had the carriers replated also
