I will design one myself that works.
Something active that looks like chemistry class? -cooled jacket condenser-type thing? Tie it in to an induction chiller?

The problem with catch cans is that they will only catch oil that has condensed. Even NA over time you will find that the inside of the intake is covered with a film of oil. This is the result of the oil vapours that come from the crankcase, condensing.

All the catch cans I have seen (which are simple plenum chambers) have NO way of coalescing the vapours which will still get through.

Catch cans work to an extent, and the problem is much worse with FI, but will not completely cure the problem. Which is, that any oil retained in the mixture will drop the octane rating and thus performance, and the oil film will prove a drag on airflow.
Mine has the top half packed with coarse wire wool type stuff (optional extra) - hopefully that goes some way to pulling the oil from the air. I did wonder if it causes too much of a restriction, will have to remember to try blowing through it some time.
It shouldnt be an optional extra. The wire wool is the coalescing element in that system. They should at least have a set of baffles.

And a lot of the time you can apparently pack a lot more wire wool in.

No problem there with the UPR, the amount they supply packs it tight (and thankfully it doesn't seem like it will come apart - think more pan scourer than wire wool).

It can't be packed that tightly that it impedes air flow and you do need somewhere for the condensed oil to flow to. How to get the balance? Dont know, haven't built or tested one yet.

No its simple impingement for the most part.

Know what you mean - it's packed to the point where you can actually load the thing 4th attempt, keeping the wire stragglers out of the main threads on the can. The bottom half of the can is empty to collect the oil (there's a holed retainer for the wool between the two halves). I sound like I'm pushing the UPR can at this point - I'm not. I'm out of the country currently, but will try blowing through it when I'm back.

Love a bit of well thought out DIY, do share smile

I'm NA and I get quite a bit of oil in my catch can. Gurmeet supplied me with it so I must confess I don't know where he got it from, hopefully he'll remember hehe

I've played about with the PCV system a bit though, naturally it still goes from valley plate through catch can to intake manifold, but instead of having the rocker cover going to the intake before the throttle body, I've got a vented / baffled / filtered type oil cap.

I'm beginning to wonder if this was a very poor idea given I pull a decent amount of oil through whereas it sounds like that isn't normal.

Have done a compression test and all were 200-210-220 psi (no odd pairings to suggest gasket issues either)

I never used one on the VXR8's but did previously have a Billet Technology catch can fitted to the 6.1 Hemi in the 300C, that used to catch quite a bit of oil.

I firmly believe it was also excess oil getting back in to the intake that killed both Clitroen DS3 Racings I had, but the least said about them the better......
