As title, it won't open! All others (5 door) OK. When I press the remote to unlock it sounds like it is unlocking and immediately relocking, but I can't catch it in the mili-second after it seems to unlock (if that is even possible).

Internet solutions seem to be to give it a good whack, but I am a little loathe to randomly hit my car in the hope that it unlocks and then will probably happen again.

Any ideas? (or cost to sort??!!). 9 years old now, so I am guessing no goodwill from VW (even if 1 owner, VW SH). Thanks.

The locks on these and th Mk 4 do fail occasionally so you will be looking at the new one. Estimate around £200 and I would be very surprised if you got any goodwill from vw.

Opposite problem on my (MK4 platform) S3 - door opens by itself! Quoted around £180 to replace the lock unit by an indy/specialist.

Colleague has had fun with his B8 S4 passenger door not opening, took five trips to Audi to get right...

My mk4 golf the drivers door unlocks but the car doesn't know the door is unlocked so no lights on etc, diagnosed as a faulty door lock module part is 200 plus one hour of labour from your chosen mech.

It's the micro switches that fail, easy enough to replace

Thanks all, that's helpful smile . It sounds like it's in the ballpark of £200-250 to fix (assuming they can get the door open!!). I'll speak to my local indy and see what they can do.

My Son has Polo with the same fault on the offside rear door, it 'tries' to lift the lock button when unlocking but no way will it open.

Presumably the trim needs to come off to get at the workings which is tricky with the door closed...

Once you've got the door card off the trick is to get the door open. Which isn't fun to say the least.

The micro switches can be replaced, with the right tools and a bit of patience.
