Firstly, let me introduce myself. My name is Craig and I am now the proud owner of a RED Formula 27 KR Roadster first built and registered in 2005 powered by the mighty GSG1300 Hayabusa engine.

As usual with all my other cars (more later!) I like to know their history.

Therefore, I am reaching out to the forum for any information about the F27 KR / Image Monza / YKC roadster / Mev Ltd Monster that might previously only be known to Steve Porter / Don Burt / Bill Edwards / Peter Allen / Stuart Mills.

I am particularly interested to know the fate of the RED Formula 27 Ltd KR demonstrator and also the YELLOW and BLUE Monza variants when under the “control” of Image Sports Cars post Yorkshire Kit Car(YKC) since according to Mr. Burt “The reason we purchased the F27 range was to save time and money on developing our own "7" – and hence the demise of the KR / Roadster? I also recently found out that in 2013 a heavily modified KR in Red appeared as the "Monster" prototype with a Chevy V4 courtesy of Stuart Mills @ Mev Ltd.

I look forward to finding out more information with a view towards documenting what is where now.

Hi Craig
Just came across your post. What you have there is the original Factory built prototype KR. I should know as I built it with my team at the time. The car was originally shown at Stoneleigh as The Lightning but we were not permitted to use the name. At that time the car was finished in lime green. We painted it red a little later and it was completed with a Honda Blackbird engine. The car was sold to a customer in North Wales and he swapped the Blackbird for a Hayabusa engine. Hope this fills in some blanks. The yellow KR you show pictured on a driveway had a Kawasaki ZX9 engine and was the first customer built car. The guy who built it emigrated to Australia and I do not know what became of the car. We produced 2 further bodyshells for YKC when they acquired the rights although we did actually build one of them with a 2litre Zetec engine for them. It was finished in Kawasaki green and tested by one of the kitcar magazines

Hi,

Thanks for the information. Yes bought the car from a guy in North Wales so sounds about right. Any more you can tell me about the build?

Thanks
Craig

I realize this is an old post but I only just came across it regarding the yellow kr that I built.
As mentioned it did indeed have a zx9 motor in it with no reverse gearbox fitted. The car was sold on evilbay by my dad as I had left the country and had indeed emigrated to Australia. I didn't take the car with me as I was unsure it would be able to be registered here .

Hi there ! I ordered the F27 KR Roadster model from new, and drove the yellow F27 whilst they ran into delays with my build. I owned F27 KRR, the Blue one (which is Vauxhall Blue, a colour I saw on a forecourt car and they matched for me) for just a few days. Unfortunately delivery delays turned into a petrol tank leak and other build issues which meant I returned the car…. Shame as it was unique. Built the Ultima next, a different beast altogether, but I do miss old Blue. Jumping over the sides was always good fun.

Not sure where it is now, MoT checker says nothing since 2008.
