After a couple of months collecting the required bits and pieces for the St3 upgrade I thought i'd share the trials and tribulations of modding an old SAAB

Just waiting for a DO88 Intercooler Kit to arrive then it'll be off my local SAAB specialist to fit them.

Been to that mecca of all things SAAB today with my pal Parky (who has a monster 9-5 with around 450bhp and 580nm) Take a bow NEO Brothers thanks for your fantastic advise and patience with me today.. Parky is a total font of knowledge when it comes to tuning 9-5's and his advise and guidance is totally invaluable.

The Albert 3" race cat downpipe..

Bosch 3.5 bar Fuel Pressure Regulator...

ITG Maxogen 80mm Aif Filter...

Bilstein B8 with Eibach Springs New Pagid Discs all round with Yellow Stuff Pads, A new DIC and Platinum tipped Plugs and various Powerflex bush kits

Thanks! it is a belter..

Update on the SAAB, it's at SAABtec in Glossop having all the bits fitted, hopefully will be ready on Monday, then off to Nottingham to see Karl on Thursday to have the Stage 3 map uploaded, can't wait!

Will report back when things are done.....

I'd be interested in the results. How much did that lot cost if you don't mind me asking? I have old 2.0 lpt which I'm think about fiddling with. I know the pistons are only good up to 300 HP max but it only has 150 HP now so it would make it quite fun! You should start a readers car thread.

About £2k for all the bits, it's going to be a bit of a riot I reckon, it's the torque increase that is the most impressive goes from 380nm to 450nm

All bits fitted by SAABtec (a great job I must say) The Suspension is fabulous, brakes strong and the noise it makes when you lift off the throttle utterly hilarious!!

only 48 hours from added dilithium via Mr Noob...

Engine bay with added shiney bits... courtesy of DO88.....

Just got back from Noob, all i'll say for now is anyone contemplating a stage 3 tune for for their 9-5 JFDI!
it transforms the car, 4th gear is hilarious, and 3rd gear overtakes are stupid for something that resembles a hearse.

Well things have moved on, fitted a set of 18" wheels and PS4s and have made the decision to go to Stage 5, so now sourcing a set of Wossner forged pistons a set of PEC Conrods, bigger injectors and a GT2871RS or a GT30 Turbo, a new paddle clutch and a Quaife LSD will be fitted at the same time, after a mapping session by Karl it's reckoned that it'll have around 380bhp and low 500s nm of torque..

For the money you wont believe what it gives you...

Just get it done, as there are absolutely no downsides..

I know. My car is sluggish at times, peppy at others. It needs consistency.

What's the latest with this? Have you gone to stage 5 yet? I'm currently at stage 3+

May I ask how much it cost to go from 3 to 5 please? I already have a spec clutch.

I left it as it was, because on reflection I felt it suited the car perfectly, after driving my pals 450bhp 9-5 it was clearly a bit OTT for the chassis.

I had my 9-3 Aero stage 1 tuned by Karl. £85
Posted him my ECU, it arrived back 3 days later, plugged it in, car initially seemed exactly the same, then I pressed the pedal on a roundabout exit, lit the tyres up in 2nd (weather dry but cold), turbo gauge right to the end of the red, me shouting naughty words and big grin. As said above, no downsides (actually there are, my clutch started slipping due to the increased torque, so had to change that, and they front tyres are wearing quite quickly even though I mostly drive like a nun.....)
