Hi All,

Been floating around for a while now, reading and doing my research whilst waiting patiently for a Monaro VXR to pop up.

I did have my heart set on a red example but for a number of months I have either been unlucky/ too slow or they just haven’t popped up frown

I was at TRAX yesterday and came across a silver example, must say in person they do look awesome and potentially will consider it with the right upgrades etc.

One has just recently came up for sale, have seen the owner posted on Facebook regarding it. It looks perfect and has had the right amount of work done, but the amount of previous owners is putting me off.

The car has had 7 previous owners, with my potential purchase that would make it 8 at the point of sale!

Earlier this year I had an Audi S5 (08) and that had 6 previous owners including me. I had to drop the price a lot in order for the car to sale as the amount of owners put everyone off.

What would you guys do regarding the owners? Worth it considering its had the desirable mods (exhaust,ls7 clutch, remote bleed, RRP)

Car was registered march 2007.

I am in two minds at the moment.

Thanks
Michael

Why do you care about number of owners?

Maybe it was just unfortunate that 7 people had purchased a car and had to sell it due to

baby
house move
work relocation to europe
mrs kept complaining
got older and retired and couldn't afford to run it anymore

I would not consider to many owner's and your obviously not sure that many owners will always affect re- sale value and in my opinion car wont have been pampered all its life, wait for another

I find this logic somewhat counterintuitive. Most new owners spend money on toys getting them up to their desired level (many enthusiasts are ocd on details etc). So more owners can often be better not worse (though this won't be in all cases). I just don't understand why number of owners is such a big issue. You are buying the car not its previous owners. Proper due diligence should identify any issues with the cars condition / provenance

That`s a good point, like you say this type of cars doesn't just fall into the hands of a Sunday driver trading in his car and deciding to purchase this.

Biggest point/concern for me is the resale value with that amount of owners, took along time on previous car with discounting to shift with 6 owners let alone 8.

Think you will get pros and cons as advice on here

You really need to go with your personal gut feeling. If it will always bother or worry about selling it's your decision

Personally I don't worry too much whether it's 3 or 5 owners when I buy them as more conscious of spec, condition etc

However some of the buyers of specialist cars are funny out there !! They will ask no. Of owners and no. Of services and not ask about condition or mods. As soon as you say 6 or 7 owners - they lose interest and don't take it further

I know what you mean as i have had one VXR8 4 x times to sell in 5.5 years. All genuine reasons for selling. The first 3 times I sold it no problem. 4th time with 6 previous owners - it put everyone off
Just took ages to shift and traded it to a friend in the end
Funny old world out there

Owners not relevant it could have had

7 loving owners who have cherished it

or a car with 1 who was a complete T**T (looked at one of those once and walked, utterly neglected )

Look for good history and if it is a known car on here people will chip in.

Totally understand the above, it is a funny world! Money orientated/black and white and if the face/amount of owners doesn't fit then its discarded regardless of like you said spec etc.

It is a car that I have wanted for a long time now so my heart is saying do it but the head is holding back due to the resale struggles. The next owner will be the 9th on the log book and that is mad!

I think I will let my heart and head do some fighting and see who wins! lol.

Thanks James.

Regards
Michael

More importantly...what is the history of the car, and have you any means of contacting those owners ?

It could be a nightmare car...or it could mean any issues with it have now been resolved.

with a lot of yank cars there are a lot of owners as people buy one on a whim and then get scared by the mpgs not being in line with the expectations of their last diesel fiesta (I realise that this is an Aussie car but I suspect that the same holds true).

The thing (IMO) to do is take a look and buy on condition

Urgh, people get so picky about mileage/owners etc...

Of course a 10 owner car isnt going to hold the same values as a 1 owner car, like wise a 100k mile car isnt going to hold the same values as a 10k miles car.

So long as the price is right and your not paying 10k/1 owner money for a 10 owner/100k car then whats the problem.
Just make sure its not a dog,

I know this might annoy a few people but I find some cars (monaros/vxr8s) are put up on a pedalstool over here in terms of mileage and owners.
Yes a low mileage ro or vxr8 would be nice, but when launched they were an everyday car not a Lamboghini/Ferrari etc etc. They are just a normal car, and compared to most similar cars these are bloody reliable in terms of miles!

Ill say sorry now

Truth though...pay to play! Another short term owner means another knock to the cars value. Fine! No problem.
