Hi all

I'm about to purchase a CV8 either 05 or 56 plate and wanted to know what to look out for before I take the plunge. I haven't had a V8 before but I'm a former RX8 owner and well used to low fuel economy and working on the car myself when needed.

I have always wanted a Monaro ever since they came out so I am quite excited about the purchase, hopefully I wont be disappointed. As a current active member of the RX8 UKOC I enjoy forums and helping people out when I can and I am hoping this forum is as helpful as the RX8 one

Thanks in anticipation

Steve

All cars were made up to 2005 but some were registered after that. Get a pre April 2006 car (05 or 55) and pay half the VED. Other than that, buy on condition and if you see one you like post it on here as we know most of the cars. Saddos we are smile

Check everything works.
Make sure it drives nice...pulls well..stops straight.
Nothing is cheap .even discs and pads can be pricey .so anything worn out wont be cheap.
They came with no underseal so a good look under is needed.
Check all service history they usually have plenty at the specialists

Thanks gents

No I haven't driven one yet but looking forward to it, one is a 56 plate with 117 k on the clock on auto trader at £8995 in Fareham CW05BGV in Odyssey Blue Gary is the owner and says he is an enthusiast. The other is an 05 in black 140k on clock based in Mid Wales at circa 7.5k with a trader and not currently listed for sale (previously on Ebay.

Both have Monkfish SH but the 05 has some mods and at present until I view the black one the better background. Both have improved exhaust the black one a Mongoose and the blue one a Wortec

If anyone knows these cars and can help that would be great

Garynogrip is a member on here. He hasn't had the car very long, but is a serial offender and doesn't keep any of his cars for long.

It was also previously owned by Wolfracer on here who sadly had to advertise it and sold it to the makers of Johnny English's second film. The car was used for a scene which was sadly cut, but is in the extended scenes on the DVD, I believe.

I thought I recognised Wolfracer's spoiler.
Odyssey is certainly the best colour but then I would say that!

Welcome

Personally I don't know of the black one you mentioned

But i know Gary and have seen his car recently at a meet organised at my place. It's a lot of car for the one money and I think that's a good buy. Has some nice upgrades and it's a great colour and has nice history

Having looked at the cost of some of the Monkfish upgrade prices I am more than happy with the car and have definitely picked the right car to buy for the money. The car will get some serious TLC still and will probably be serviced at MWP as its reasonably close

Yes mate, been surfing (stalking) this forum re previous info on the car. Pick it up Thurs from garynogrip its nice to see the car didn't get totalled by the film crew which was what people were imaging was going to happen. Ive had RWD RX8 and M Sport BMW before but this car sounds like different gravy. The Mrs is worried about me upsetting the neighbours with the full Wortec system (with headers) but I am sure I can keep the noise down angel

Well I picked it up yesterday off Gary, what a car it is too. Really good 250 mile drive home (those seats are like armchairs) and the car was faultless. Really happy with the drive and purchase and she is off to MWP today for a health check and diagnostic.

Father in law loves the car (petrolhead) and as a mechanic says it sounds and looks fine, I can see how these can get under your skin as the noise alone from the full Wortec system is mesmorising.

Its already got a few, K+N filter, full Wortec, Road response Pack, LS7 and flywheel, ripshifter, remap

I'm thinking brakes (defo) and new alloys (maybe) after that I'm not overly sure mate other than a bit of TLC

Had the all clear from MWP yesterday, seems a good set up there so will get them to look after the car for me. Only points were rear brakes which I knew about, small top end oil leak (slight) and a bit of a heavy clutch.

Trying now to source drivers sun visor (mirror wont stay shut) and a cover for the small tidy box in the centre console (clip has broken) Wheels need refurbing or replacing, cant decide which at present but no rush.
