I don't move the car over the winter period so I'm not looking for winter tyres but I am looking for some good summer tyres for next year. Monkfish have very kindly suggested Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres for her and I was wondering what everyone else is using and how you'd rate the performance of your chosen tyre smile

I have the pilot sport 3 on the front of my Monaro, and I have no complaints. I will replace the rear Bridgestone potenza S001, with Pilot sport 3 early next year.
The original factoy Bridestones were quite good, but I feel the replacement Potenza S001 was not as good on a Monaro.
TBH I have no idea what the difference is with a Pilot sport 2 or 3, but either way a Mitchelin is a quality tyre.

Ive just bought two Pilot Sport 3 (part worn) to replace a couple of cheap and nasty ditchfinders on the front. I had PS 3 and the PS 4 on my 330d BMW and couldn't fault them summer or winter. As the last reply says quality brand, I believe a few on here swear by Michelin Super Sports but they are not in stock anywhere near me (NW area) at all at present and may be a wider shortage.

Are Kumho's okay on a Monaro? scratchchin I thought people usually went for PS2, Vredstein or Bridgestones?

MPSS. Falkens are st on heavier cars, Conti 5P's were okay, the MPSS rule the roost to this day tbh.

I never had the chance to try them on my Monaro but I've got them on the R8 and I'm very happy with them

Had them on a previous car i'd say if you don't want to spend the megabucks for the mpss/bridgestones then kumhos I think are probably the best of the rest.

Likewise, I had KU39s on our VXR8 but the Monaro is a little more sensitive to tyre choice.

I use them on mine and they've been fine with wet weather and summer driving and work well with the extra power, although I can spin 'me up through to third and have had the tyres chirping into fourth on shcensoredt surfaces

the kuhmos ku39 they do a higher load rating it you get that they are very good in my opinion , i had a set on there with only a 93 rating and the car was ok but not as good as it should be , one tyre on the inner edge was worn so i did the front pair and much improved with the higher rating , i'm sure mpss are good but too much for me , all cars i own are on ku39 and they work well , i had falken fk452 before but the kuhmos are better , i found a good cheap snow tyre called ecosnow not sure about that on a monaro but greet on the scooby

Had Vred's Ultrac Sessanta on my previous CV8 which others had recommended on here as a non-premium mid-range tyre as I hadn't heavily mod'd that car (probably running high 300's BHP), and they were fine, nice and grippy - superb in the wet due to the wide channels between the trad blocks. I would say if you're running any significant power over stock though, you'd want one of the Michelin offerings

Not necessarily, as I've already said I'm running over stock power (486.2bhp on SRR) and I found the Kumho's handled the power easily, they were much better than the Falkens on there at the moment

Had several set of the Verdestein Ultrac Sessanta’s I really liked them good performance in the dry and outstanding in the wet. (Supercharged LS1) I was told they had stopped making them as I have the replacement Ultra Vorti on the rear at present, however I Just noticed they are available again now.
Shame the car is off the road at present.

Plenty of choice given here, but the op hasn't said what they are looking for in a tyre.

Outright performance means nothing here will be better than Michelin pilot super sport. Nothing.

Then there's mps4. Very similar spec to super sport but I'd say a tad less grip. Newer tyre that replaces the the lesser overall grip level of the mps2/3 but these will llast well if not pushed. Mind you the 4 last ok anyway re tyre wear.

Dunlop. No experience of the newer model but the Dunlop Rt are ok ish. Not as grippy or as stable as the previous tt, and the RT WILL drop off a cliff at about half worn. They become very unstable and grip level drops off to worse than any cheaper tyre. This makes them an expensive option for me as they have to go in the bin way sooner than is acceptable.
I have heard good reports on the RT replacement though, whatever that's called 😂

From here down your looking at cheaper options that will not give the same grip level, such as kumho and the (frankly appalling by comparison Ime) Falkens which WILL amplify the Monaro tendency to pull off line on road imperfections. (Tram line) something which will never be evident to the driver on mpss or mps4 if the car is set up correctly.

Op doesn't doesnt mention driving style, but on a car with this level of performance, my advice is don't mess about. Michelin pilot super sport all year long (unless it snows ). Anything else will be as equally compromised as they are cheap.

I have a set of Cooper tyres (Formula 1) on my CV8 and to date they are the best tyre i have put on. Never herd of them myself but the are owned by Avon and are big in the States. Very grippy
