Driving along fine after filling up, just a few corners from home and check engine, safety mode all come on at the same time.

After a few off/ons and nasty idle and a bit of a wait I turn it on again and back to working fine but still have the check engine light

So get the old laptop out with dead battery, extension cable and plug in my USB OBD reader and get the following codes

P2176 - Throttle Actuator Control - Idle Position Not Learned
P2010 - Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit Range Performance
P1516 - Manufacturer Defined - looks like Throttle Actuator Control Module Throttle Actuator Position Performance from a quick google

So obviously looks like some sort of issue with throttle body and from a quick search could be looking at wiring or the throttle body. I have cleared the codes and driven round the block. Probably need to have a another look tomorrow with some better light

Anyone got any further insight based on the above ?

Also can anybody recommend a obd reader that will work with my android phone. I have a cheap ebay one but it didn't want to work with the car.

emm.

Booted the wifes auto hard. It shut down at 120 went into limp pussy mode. got home at 15mph (fun on the motorway) . Turn off. on. off , on starts all good. eng man light on. emm. checked TB connection to air cleaner slightly loose on hose - tightened. Light off. comes back on 600 miles later - ignored as it ran fine , it went away. 2000 miles later ok. Got my independent to clear the codes the first time. Good luck.

That sounds a bit more exciting than my 25 mph wtf is going on moment!

Can anyone comment on the part number if it comes to a replacement TB?

I think it is 12570790 and in the region of £400, only thing is that the fish has LS2/LS3 throttle body down as £1045.20 on their website....

Had to change the throttle body on my LS2 Monaro about 4 years ago, think it was around £400.

So the throttle body moves freely and although it was very awkward to access them individually I don't think any of the wires are loose though cant be sure on that yet.

Cleaned a load of black crud from intake side of the TB, maybe it got stuck briefly last night...

Time to idle it for a while and then go to work if all is OK

had a VXR Monaro. Picador said a TB due to a thrown code after limp mode . MF said unlikely. Never replaced it and saved £500. Bathurst S threw a TB code. Ignored that it went away. Auto VXR8 did and it went away. start with the cheap things first. I think if these cars are treated like princesse snd not really driven they throw a code until they get used to it. Well that's my experiences anyway. use em and abuse em.

What App are you running? My cheap ebay OBDII device connects really easily with 'Torque' but struggles with 'Dash Command'. Generally with Dash Command, I have to remove it and plug it in again to connect. Torque is instant. Once connected though, I've never had an issue with either App.

I'm using one of these - the on/off button failed in a week but it's permanently plugged in and has never failed me on my previous Astra's or the VXR8.

You got lucky.

I ignored it at first but it got more and more frequent until one morning the car wouldn't start at all.

I was using the free version of torque. It just keeps on searching for the correct mode to talk to the ECU.
Have ordered one of those you linked, well looks the same but from a UK supplier to avoid the long wait. will give it a go and also will try dash command with my current one

From an old email I seem to recall the 790 ending one is an LS2 throttle body.
If it needs a new one, take the original one off and find the part number on there. I would guess it ends in 109.
As mentioned elsewhere on here at the moment the blade colour can help too. Silver or copper colour.
I've had 3 or 4 of them and never had problems with the throttle bodies. I do clean them with throttle body cleaner whenever I replace the air filter.

From what I have read I think 12570790 is the TB for LS2 Monaro, LS2 VXR8 and LS3 VXR8 2008 cars and is the silver coloured blade (mine LS3 was built May 2008 and has silver blade). LS3 VXR8 2009 onwards may have the gold/copper blade 12605109 which is much cheaper and opens in the opposite direction and would require mapping work to work properly on silver bladed cars.

My VCM intake is a bit nasty looking so will give the filter a clean when I get a chance.

May also take the TB off and clean both sides, does anyone know if I would need to do a relearn or similar? Guess that would mean fresh gasket and knowing tightening torques though.

Yes I must be reading the same stuff, looks like some of the early LS3 cars had silver bladed throttle bodies.
ACDelco 2171617 looks like another number for the silver one.

Yep, causes quite a few issues for guys who run the wrong one as it kind of works, but throws errors and limp mode if used in the wrong application.
