After 21 happy months with my '05 CV8 I've decided to sell. Those of you on here who know me or have met me at meets (usually at 007's) know all the work and money I put into it, but as it was my daily driver I was always hankering after more power. To that end I was looking into building a pro street / street&strip car and had priced up all the necessary hard ware. This was all going to be Arnievxr's old stuff from his red one he built a few years ago but stuffed into the wall at the 'pod. This was his old 9" rear end with a Detroit locker with ladder bar set up, 6.8L stroker motor, 4L80E auto box with high stall torque convertor and ecu, 1 piece prop and a pair of 10" centrelines with drag radials on. So I started looking into build costs for having the fabrication work done to the Monaro chassis to get the 9" rear and ladder bar set up into the car. All the people I spoke to were talking about 100 hours labour at £50/hour so I was looking at £5000 to get the rear end in, then I had to swap my 5.7 LS1 over to the 6.8 LS2 stroker motor, then the gearbox, then get another custom map done etc etc and it all started adding up. I estimated by the time I'd completed it I'd have about 30K invested in the car plus all the waiting time so I started looking at other alternatives. I was brought up on drag racing and American cars and have owned a few modern Corvettes and Firebirds but have always fancied a classic yank, so I started looking at all the drag racing websites for the classifieds and the classic car sites and eventually found a '72 Dodge Demon for sale that was an ex race car that had now been converted to pro street. A deal was struck and I took delivery today. I'll still be hanging round on here and I'm sure I'll still see some of you down at Neil's (NWJ) as I now own his golf as a cheap hack to drive to and from work in. Monaro ownership has been fun and I hope I have as much fun with my new toy
